$25 Kmart item that shoppers are comparing to activewear brand

An everyday clothing item from the budget retailer is being hailed as a perfect dupe for a label that retails for almost four times the price.

Why Aussies are raving about Kmart range

A humble pair of trackpants from one budget retailer is being hailed as a perfect dupe for a label that retails for almost four times the price.

Kmart has launched its Active Womens Youth Dance Pants, which are available to purchase for $25.

The trackies come in black with a white waistband or in white.

The very affordable pants have been compared to Lorna Jane’s Flashdance pants, which typically sell for $90.

Social media users were torn, with some wondering how they compared to the Lorna Jane version and others saying they had no interest in the budget version.

“Wonder how they compare to LJ,” one shopper commented.

Another said: “My daughter wants these for her birthday! I saw them last week. Super cute.”

“I just bought the Lorna Jane ones too,” a customer commiserated.

“Target used to have the best dupe! Wore them for years,” another said.

One added: “Aldi has a much better dupe on these that usually come out late Feb or early March that are $15, in navy and black.”

Someone else complained: “They would be good if they were longer like the LJ ones, such an unflattering length.”

While another asked: “Are they low rise like the LJ’s cause I hate them for that. I want high rise.”

“Wouldn’t even crawl for those,” another said.

Back in 2022, the $90 Lorna Jane pants had a renaissance – more than 20 years after brand creator Lorna Clarkson designed them.

But while they’ve always been a favourite among fans of the brand, selling steadily in the years since, the “stretchy” pants recently began flying off the shelves in record numbers – prompting the 59-year-old entrepreneur to question why.

As it turns out, the answer was very “surprising”.

“The Flashdance pants have been one of the brand’s best-selling styles for many years, so seeing a sudden spike in sales for this cult-favourite seemed like it came completely out of the blue,” Lorna, from Brisbane, told news.com.au at the time.

“But the unexpected rise in popularity can be attributed to none other than user-generated content on TikTok.”

The social media platform, loved by Gen Z, has spawned a fresh appreciation for the comfortable pants that saw multiple restocks “sell out” in less than 24 hours.

“My first thought was, ‘Wow! The teenagers are finally getting with it,’” Lorna joked, before adding: “It’s amazing to see they are being loved and enjoyed by new generations.”
