$20 Kmart ‘dupe’ is dividing fans of the department store
Kmart shoppers have been left divided over a $20 ‘dupe’ of one designer item that could cost hundreds of dollars more.
A $20 pair of Kmart shoes has been compared to a brand that retails up to 14 times more, and shoppers can’t get enough.
Instagram page Kmart Insider compared the $20 Kmart Round Toe Clogs to the Birkenstock version, with the price tag attached ranging from $200 to $280.
One version of the Birkenstock Boston shoes, made with natural leather, costs $430, according to the brand’s website.
“A viral IT-shoe has landed at @kmartaus! Slide your feet into a $20 dupe of the Birkenstock Boston,” a post on the Kmart fan page read.
Social media users, however, have been torn over the shoes, with some saying the extra money is worth it in the end.
“Bet the Kmart ones don’t have to foot support which is what you are paying for with Birkenstocks or quality leather,” one social media user commented.
Another said: “Wow, what a good dupe.”
“I bought one of these two years ago. It’s awesome. I’ll buy this one for sure for summer,” one added their own opinion.
“And yes I do own two pairs of berks. I wear them out but the Kmart ones I wear in the house. Love ‘em.”
Another commented: “I love a bargain as much as the next person. But I wouldn’t bother with these. Birkies have a real leather sock so your feet don’t get sweaty, stinky and fugally.”
One said they liked the Kmart version but they were difficult to break in.
“The Kmart Round Toe Clogs is an ongoing style that began to arrive in store and online roughly two weeks ago,” a Kmart spokesperson told news.com.au.
“It was inspired by our Two Band Shoes that has been incredibly popular as well. They are a very comfortable shoe that gives a effortlessly stylish look.”
