THE inspiring young model Madeline Stuart is modelling for New York Fashion Week in September.
The 18-year-old from Brisbane has taken to Instagram to share the news with her 59,000 followers, saying “Guess who is modelling in NY for NY fashion week”.
Madeline has Down syndrome and, as news.com.au reported last month, wanted to change how the world sees beauty and challenge stereotypes about people with disabilities.
First she landed two professional modelling gigs with American fitness-wear brand Manifesta and lifestyle label everMaya.
And now she will hit the runway that has featured the ranks of top local models Jessica Hart, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Miranda Kerr.
Madeline revealed she will be walking the runway for FTL MODA.
The brand wrote on its Facebook page: “It is with the utmost joy and pride that we announce Madeline Stuart’s participation in #FTLModa #NYFW #SS2016 presentation. Beautiful Madeline will brighten up the runway at the #VanderbiltHall on September 13th 2015. Stay tuned and RSVP!”
“I want to inspire ... young women and men to love their inner beauty and to realise with time that inner beauty and compassion is all that lasts and is what people really see us for,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
“I want to inspire business professionals to employ people with disabilities as they will bring something so deep and beautiful to the work environment.
“I want to inspire families to have faith when they feel lost as everything can have a silver lining if you believe and never give up. I want to inspire people not to bully anyone to see worth in everyone as equals.”
