MODEL Elyse Knowles made her official debut as Myer’s newest ambassador on Thursday night, but the 26-year-old says she has been preparing for this day for months.

Knowles looked incredible as she walked down the runway alongside veteran Myer ambassador Jennifer Hawkins at the department store’s Spring/Summer show in Sydney.

“It is a lot of preparing, a lot of sessions in the gym and a lot of looking after your mindframe is key,” Knowles told news.com.au just a few hours before the show.

“You have to be positive and happy so you can perform in the gym as well. It’s an all around thing, from food and what you eat, to your state of mind,” she said.

Knowles normally works out five to six days a week doing a mix of weights and low-impact cardio training.

“I love doing HIIT sessions ... a mix between machines and cardio like rowing or the assault bike. It kills you! And a lot of sled pulling and pushing. That’s the only cardio I like to do. I don’t run, it’s all low-impact for me,” she said.

“I also love doing weight sessions. I’ve become addicted to getting in the gym and learning new things.”

But with a long day of media commitments to promote the Myer show, Knowles had to skip the gym tonight.

“No, I didn’t have time today. I woke up at 6am and I had to be ready for hair and make-up,” she said.

“Today I’ve had a few little breaks and I’ll sit on the ground and do a few ab sessions.

I hate missing out on exercise. It’s become such a part of my routine and such a part of me that it makes me happy when I’ve completed it. I do it in the morning so I can take on the day feeling strong. I get a lot of energy from the gym.”

Knowles eats a super healthy diet and in preparation for the show cut out alcohol, sugar and carbs.

“I pretty much don’t drink at all. It’s pretty rare that I drink. Cutting out all sugar is the hardest part for me. I don’t drink coffee so sugar is my go-to,” she said.

She sticks to a diet high in “natural, high-fat foods, high protein and very lean meats and a lot of fish and a bucketload of vegies.”

Knowles is also the face of Seafolly swimwear and previously shared the intense workout regimen she put her body through in the lead-up to a photo shoot earlier this year.

“When I find out I’ve booked a big gig, the first thing I do is sit down and plan out a ‘health kick’. It’s not about losing weight — it’s about toning up and feeling my best,” Knowles wrote on her blog.

“I was training heaps in the lead-up to Seafolly. Up to two to three times a day on occasions. From HIIT classes, to weight classes, to long and brisk walks with my puppy.

“When I was training, I would say to myself, ‘SEAFOLLY, SEAFOLLY!’ This little chant kept me strong and focused during each session. When I thought I couldn’t go any harder, I’d picture the years of hard work to get myself here and just keep on pushing. Your body can do amazing things when you set your mind to something,” she wrote.

She admitted she pushed her body hard in order to achieve these results.

“Towards the end, right before the shoot I started to feel quite exhausted. I always listen to my body, 100 per cent of the time. So when the fatigue hit, I slowed it down quite a lot,” she wrote.

“There is no point getting this far and then burning out. Your health needs to come first always. No ifs or buts … No excuses.”
