Lorna Jane receptionist and model job ad includes physical measurements
“BUST: 87-90cm, WAIST: 70-73cm, HEIGHT: 165cm.” These are the measurements women must have if they want to be a receptionist at a popular women’s brand.
“BUST: 87-90cm, WAIST: 70-73cm, HIP (at widest point): 97-100cm, HEIGHT: 165cm or taller.”
These are the physical measurements women must adhere to if they want a job as Lorna Jane’s new combined receptionist and model.
“This Receptionist/Fit Model role is full time with your work week split between receptionist duties and assisting our Design Team with fitting of new garments,” reads the ad for the popular women’s activewear brand.
Applicants “must” fit the measurements listed above “in order to accurately provide feedback on Lorna Jane products in a size small”.
While successful applicants do not require previous modelling experience, they must be “comfortable with yourself and in providing feedback on the fit of a variety of garments. You must be patient as you may be required to stand for long periods of time,” the ad states.
Previous experience as a receptionist is “essential”, as are strong communication and administrative skills. Applicants must also have “a love of Lorna Jane and the Move, Nourish, Believe philosophy” if they want to join the “Lorna Jane Sisterhood”.
The ad went live on Friday but was later removed from seek.com.au and the careers section of the Lorna Jane website due to an “overwhelming” number of applications, a Lorna Jane spokeswoman told news.com.au.
“Our current model is leaving the business and we’re looking for someone to replace her,” she said.
“We have 70 to 100 new garments a month and they’re popped onto our standard fit model and measured to make sure things fit right, that there’s no puckering and gaping and there’s nothing too loose. Then alterations are made,” she said, adding it was quite common for the brand to combine roles at its head office.
“We used to have an in-house hair makeup artist who also worked on reception and we have another girl who heads up our concept stores and also teaches classes in our studios,” she said.
The reaction to the ad on social media has been mixed.

Fit model is a legit job that needs specific body dimensions. But Lorna Jane shouldn't combine it with another job. http://t.co/AehPeAYHUx

YES it is weird that size 8 women are seen as the 'standard/sample' size, but that's a whole other discussion. Not Lorna Jane's fault.
