From Fendi to Moschino: Supermodels wear wild and wacky style at Milan Fashion Week
Dressed as a bride and clown, supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid turned heads in bizarre couture outfits at Milan Fashion week. SEE THE PHOTOS
Wearing power shoulders and a mini wedding dress, Gigi Hadid was a couture bride and her sister, Bella Hadid, was a high-fashion clown on the runway at Milan Fashion Week.
The supermodel sisters sported some of the most eye-catching looks at MFW as Moschino unveiled its wild and wacky spring/summer collection 2020.
Bradley Cooper’s ex, Russian supermodel Irina Shayk, wore a violin bodysuit and Kaia Gerber was part model, part musical instrument, as they strutted in the hot-ticket show.
The Hadids were also in form at Max Mara and Fendi, where Gigi went braless in a sheer shirt and Kendall Jenner showed that her blonde hair is, in fact, not a wig.

At Moschino, models walked through an enormous gilded picture frame, as the brand’s creative director Jeremy Scott took inspiration from Pablo Picasso (and his home, Spain) to Pierrot clowns, including Bella Hadid who wore a pink-and-blue Harlequin onesie.
Critics noted that some of the outfits incorporated out-of-proportion impressionist references, such as geometric, off-skew sleeves and swirling bra cups.
Scott’s pre-show notes said that the show was built around the idea that “muses inspire artists and artists inspire the world”.
Moschino’s show aesthetic was, according to Vogue, “imaginative, all-encompassing surrealism”.
SHEER RULES AT FENDI
At Fendi, a blonde Kendall Jenner paid homage to the 1960s, which saw the Italian brand return to the 1960s for its first collection since the death of creative director, Karl Lagerfeld.
The new collection by Silvia Venturini Fendi featured quilted jackets and matching miniskirts, floral cropped raincoats and terry-cloth fabrics, as well as canvas jackets and lots of V-necklines.
Models strutted the runway in oversized sunglasses and to the’60s anthem Let the Sunshine In from the musical, Hair.
There were also gingham and sheer checked shirts, teamed with cropped knits and bug-eye glasses that had librarian glasses chains dangling from them, featuring Fendi’s iconic “double FF” logo.
MINIMALIST MAX MARA
Max Mara paid tribute to female spies in its latest collection, taking a cues from British feminist writer Natasha Walter (“fiction needs more female spies. After all, women are trained to keep secrets,” she famously said).
Outfits had a military appeal, balanced with silky flowing femininity. There were Bermuda shorts, tailored shirts and matching monochrome ties, worn with matching sheer knee socks and pumps.
Candice Swanepoel, Gigi Hadid (of course) and Doutzen Kroes opened the show as a Charlie’s Angels trio.
Joan Smalls and Kaia Gerber joined Hadid and her sister Bella in the closing look of silkysheaths with tiered detailing and military caps.
