FOR someone who usually gets it so right, Cate Blanchett’s pre-Oscars red carpet outing was a surprising disaster. But she wasn’t the only one who forgot their fashion sense last night.

Hollywood stars stepped out for the Independent Spirit Awards in a rainy Santa Monica and appeared to leave their better fashion judgement at home.

Cate Blanchett, Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey all wore outfits that were uncharacteristically, well, awful. Even newcomer 12 Years A Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o, who has been owning the red carpet recently, looked awkward in a jumpsuit.

Blanchett and McConaughey did pick up awards for their performances in Blue Jasmine and Dallas Buyers Club respectively while 12 Years a Slave led the pack picking up five awards.
