INSPIRING personal trainer Jack Eyers is set to walk on the runway at New York Fashion Week — despite having his right leg amputated 10 years ago.

Eyers, 25, was chosen by designer Antonio Urzi to take part in his runway show for New York Fashion Week.

The part-time model from Bournemouth in the UK had his leg amputated at the age of 16 due to a condition called Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency, a birth defect which usually results in one leg being shorter than the other.

“Growing up with the deformed leg was really hard — I had no muscle structure or knee joint and I walked with a really pronounced limp,” he told the Daily Mail. “I remember at the age of around seven saying I wanted to have it amputated but I needed to wait until it stopped growing — it felt like this devil attached to me. When I finally got it removed it felt like I’d been reborn.”

Eyers then became a fitness fanatic and was even named Men’s Health magazine’s Man of the Year.

His appearance at Fashion Week will mark the first time an amputee has taken to the catwalk.

He says he is humbled and excited by the opportunity.

“I could hardly believe it. It still doesn’t feel real, but I can’t wait to get out there and get stuck in. It’s such a massive step for me and the modelling industry,” he said.

Urzi designs for a lot of celebrity including Beyonce and Britney Spears. He is one of Lady Gaga’s favourite designers and created many of the outfits for her latest concert tour.
