DIAMOND and meteorite dust plus white truffle makes up the world’s most expensive blow dry. But does it really work?

1000 bucks for a blow dry? You’re kidding

IT has been tagged the world’s most expensive blow dry.

With shampoo and ingredients that are (literally) out of this world - it’s verging on the ridiculous.

Take, for instance: diamond dust, meteorite dust and the skin of white truffle. I kid you not.

When I was invited to test out this piece of total follicle extravagance, of COURSE I had to be there.

So, I travelled to Mr Burrows very cool, urban salon in the Sydney suburb of Enmore to see whether the results lived up to the hype.

Called the Fuente Truffle blow dry, the creators claim that unlike other shampoos theirs is 5% water and 95% of active ingredients which leaves hair extremely “healthy” and “shiny”.

As for being tagged the “world’s most expensive blow dry”, that’s simply because London’s Harrods once charged 500 quid for the experience - “the experience” being all about the ingredients, hence the hefty price tag.

I mean what kind of singular “blow dry” would cost a thousand bucks? That would be like treating EVERY hair strand you have with a kid glove.

The ingredients are said to react “intelligently” to the specific needs of each individual hair type, restoring locks to their finest possible condition. Yes, this does gets kookier by the minute.

OK, so we start with a five-minute shampoo with the mighty elixir before some hot rocks are added into the equation and massaged all over my head.

Fortunately my head took to the rocks. Anyone who would pay $1000 for all of this must HAVE rocks in theirs. The shampoo was washed away to make way for the exotic conditioner.

The pricey conditioner was then applied and my head wrapped in plastic (the team at the salon avoided covering my motor-mouth) and I was placed under a heating implement that revolved around my head like that ring does around Saturn.

Oh, and before you get too scared about the Aussie pricing for all of this, instead of charging the ridiculous 1K London amount, hair man James Burrows is charging $97 for this whole meteorite/diamond/white truffle palaver, the hot-stone treatment and the blow dry.

Obviously he’s hoping you’ll love it SOOO much, that you will come back for more. And more. And more. (But if you do want to take home the shampoo and conditioner they will set you back $300.)

Fifteen minutes later and I was unwrapped, towel-dried and swiftly blow-dried, assuring myself there was gold somewhere in them locks.

Once I left the salon and seriously ran my fingers through my hair, I have to admit my hair felt softer and even kind of thicker than before (and man, my hair is mighty fine).

But, this is one of those treatments that Mr Burrows suggests needs to be done every few weeks for the effects to really, really kick in.

THE TECH SIDE:

•DIAMOND DUST: This is to achieve incredible shine with the diamonds (allegedly) sourced from a 250-year old Dutch diamond house. They are made using a magnetic field production process known as magnetic attraction. You can stop choking on your coffee now.

This all is supposed to mean that the diamond is positively charged and “sticks” to the hair.

My erstwhile colleague Sam Clench was sure he could see diamond fleks in my hair (through clenched teeth, Sam?) when I arrived back at the office.

Most of my other colleagues, well, they just said “Hi!”.

•METEORITE DUST: The hair folk who created all of this reckon this is their biggest breakthrough “ingredient”. Discovered by a Japanese scientist by the name of Takeshi Kakegawa (with results even published by the University of Tokyo) apparently it has two main functions.

Did you know that a meteorite that plummets into the earth’s sea creates minerals that are approximately 80% similar to those found in human hair, making the ingredient a perfect source of supply for all the ingredients hair may lack? Nor did I. That’s a Million Dollar Minute question right there.

(How they can tell the difference between a meteorite rock at the bottom of the ocean to a good old barnacle beats me. But there you go.)

The second advantage of meteorite dust is it (allegedly) provides for a “delivery system” that allows the hair to only take the specific ingredients it requires. I know. I know. Kook and kookier.

•WHITE TRUFFLE: The Truffle shampoo was tested on over 100 heads and when the ingredients contained in the residue foam were collected it was all different. The Fuente folk saying this “confirms” that the hair only takes the ingredients it lacks.

So, whether, you believe all this lotion and potion mumbo jumbo or not, my hair felt pretty damn good after given so much love.

But would I pay any more than $97? Umm, I done think so.
