DIY pavlova boards are the Christmas treat of 2020
Forget cheese platters – do-it-yourself pavlova boards are the “genius” treat to impress your relatives this Christmas.
Gone are the days of those sprawling cheese boards your second cousin spent hours meticulously curating – there’s apparently a new treat in town this Christmas to impress even your fussiest relatives.
Images of an unbelievably good-looking DIY pavlova grazing board has set social media alight, with the ingenious dessert inspiration courtesy of Canberra’s Swish Biscuits founder, Shalini Nestor.
Speaking to 7News, Ms Nestor explained that while she’d seen pavlova stations before, she’d never seen them presented in grazing board-form – and thought it was a great idea that allowed everyone to be able to make their own custom sweet on December 25.
“I came up with the idea because I’ve seen DIY pavlova bars and stations before, but I hadn’t seen it on a grazing board where the toppings are actually on the platter/table which makes it look really inviting and abundant,” she said.

“My family absolutely loved the idea and we had so much fun choosing how to decorate our own pavs; it was a really nice interactive way to serve dessert.”
Ms Nestor shared the concept to Facebook, along with a slew of suggestions of what families could include on their own board.
“Lots of fruit, coconut, chocolate and fresh mint! Everyone gets to make their own custom pavs just the way they like it,” she wrote in the post.
As far as her own “personal favourite combination”, Ms Nestor said she couldn’t go past “fresh mango slices with passionfruit and a sprinkle of shredded coconut”.
“But I also tried one that was topped with salted caramel sauce, raspberries and a sprinkle of Flake,” she added.

Eager cooks have taken to the comment to share their own creations, with families in Canada even taking up the delicious idea.
“I was planning on making mini pav’s but this is such an awesome idea! I’m totally stealing it,” wrote one lady.
“We are doing this for Christmas too! We did it last year and it was a massive hit with the girls!” commented another.
“What a great idea, then everyone can have what they like! Brilliant,” another woman said.
