‘Extreme facial workout’: FaceGym is launching in Mecca Australia

A British fitness craze is launching here after the cult “workout” – labelled “intense” and “insane” by attendees – took off overseas.

Extreme 'facial workout' launching in Australia

A cult British skincare brand known for its “extreme facials” that give more than 40 muscles in your face a workout, is launching in Australia.

FaceGym – a world-first concept that combines beauty, wellness, and fitness to sculpt, lift, tone, and brighten – is launching in Mecca’s flagship Sydney store in January.

Much like attending a regular gym, FaceGym-goers head into a “fitness studio” where their faces are given a “high-powered workout” using a combination of tools, massage techniques and skincare products.

The unique facial, created by former beauty journalist Inge Theron, first launched with a pop up in London in 2014 but has since expanded to 13 studios in London, Manchester, New York, and Los Angeles.

The launch into Sydney’s George Street Mecca store will be the first FaceGym Studio in the Southern Hemisphere and the fifth city worldwide.

In addition to the FaceGym Studio, Mecca will also be launching the product and skin tool range exclusively across Australia and New Zealand in stores and online.

US consumers have particularly taken to the facial, with celebrity fans including Lizzo, Diddy, Shanina Shaik and Sofia Richie.

TikTok is awash with videos showing customers having the treatment, with some labelling it “extreme”, “cool” and “worth it”.

Beauty influencer Mikayla Nogueira shared her FaceGym video with her 13 million followers earlier this year, revealing it was “such a cool experience”.

“This is a gym for your face,” she said, panning her camera to show a full “workout menu”.

She then detailed how a “trainer” will perform exercises on your face to target different concerns – stating a bunch of “high pressure” tools were used, including a ball and a microneedling pen.

“Then they do this real intense massage with their hands and its firm pressure, like, it hurt at times but it feels so good,” she said.

Mikayla then described a “strange” tool that was run across her skin as her “favourite”, revealing the end result made her jaw look “so tight”.

Other social media users have been equally as “impressed” though everyone warns the facial isn’t for the faint-hearted.

“I had this done and it’s INSANE,” one commented.

“This has to be one of the best facials ever,” another added.

Prices overseas vary from $95 to $445 dependent on treatment but Mecca hasn’t announced its Australian prices yet.
