‘Thankfully, Mr Trump, this isn’t your America’

HOURS before polls open across the country, Hillary Clinton called on one of the most effective orators her campaign has employed to deliver a powerful message.

HILLARY Clinton brought out the big guns at an event in New Hampshire on Sunday night, calling on one of the most effective messengers her campaign has employed throughout the presidential race.

The Democratic candidate was introduced to the stage by Khizr Khan, the Gold Star father whose public fight with rival Donald Trump earlier this year became one of the most controversial moments of the campaign.

Mr Khan’s son, Army Capt. Humayun Khan, died while serving in Iraq in 2004.

On Sunday night, Mr Khan portrayed a dark vision of the country if Mr Trump were to win Tuesday’s election. He said he had a few “questions” for the Republican candidate.

“Donald Trump, would my son, Captain Humayun Khan have a place in your America?” he asked.

“Would Muslims have a place in your America? Would Latinos have a place in your America?

“Would African-Americans have a place in your America, Donald Trump?

“Would anyone who isn’t like you have a place in your America?

“Well thankfully, Mr Trump, this isn’t your America,” he said.

Each question was met by a resounding “No!” from the crowd inside the Radisson ballroom in Manchester.

“On Tuesday, we are going to prove America belongs to all of us,” Mr Khan finished, amid cheers.

In July, Mr Khan and his wife, Ghazala took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia to tell his son’s story. During his speech, he held up his copy of the US Constitution and challenged Mr Trump to read it. Behind them, a photo of their slain son, Humayun, filled the giant screen.

What followed Mr Khan’s blistering denunciation of the GOP nominee during his convention address was a week-long public spat between the pair after Mr Trump targeted Ghazala Khan for standing silently beside her husband. She responded one week later by penning a powerful open letter, explaining she was too heartbroken to speak about her beloved son.

Nodding and clapping enthusiastically throughout Mr Khan’s speech on Sunday, Ms Clinton said that the Gold Star father and his family “exemplify the values that make America great” and that all Americans would be “grateful that this remarkable family decided to make American their home.”

Along with New Hampshire, Ms Clinton will visit Michigan and Pennsylvania on Monday to close out her campaign, two states where almost all voting happens on Election Day.

“Don’t leave it to chance. Don’t leave it to others. Use your voice and your vote,” she implored the crowd.
