Anthony Albanese enjoys strawberry sundae at Brisbane’s Ekka

After Peter Dutton caused a stir eating a dagwood dog, the Prime Minister has been snapped in an equally awkward picture.

PM speaks on the need for China to lift remaining trade sanctions

It’s not a visit to the Ekka without it – and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese got the memo.

Mr Albanese spoke to fellow showgoers and farmers as he tucked into a famous strawberry sundae at a visit to the Royal Queensland Show on Tuesday.

Reminiscent of photos taken last year of Opposition Leader Peter Dutton tucking into a dagwood dog, Mr Albanese was snapped tucking into the famous sweet treat – seemingly enjoying every mouthful.

The photos of the Opposition Leader last year caused quite a stir, prompting him to defend the indelicate task of chowing into the deep fried battered sausage.

Unlike the beige-and-red snack Mr Dutton enjoyed last year, strawberry sundaes are a fundraising tradition at the Ekka.

A licensed product that can only be served at the Ekka, all proceeds go to medical research at the Prince Charles Hospital.

Each year across the show’s run, an average of 100,000 sundaes are scooped and sold.

Earlier, Mr Albanese had turned down an offer from Hit FM’s Tommy Little of a personal $10,000 donation to a charity of the PM’s choosing if he agreed to be dunked on their live radio show.

Mr Albanese emphatically turned down the offer – saying there wasn’t enough money to make him chair a cabinet meeting while still damp.

Mr Albanese touched down in Brisbane on Tuesday and headed straight to the Ekka ahead of a national cabinet meeting on Wednesday, then the national Labor conference from Thursday to Saturday.
