Aussie reveals $2000-a-week job with only one day of training
An Aussie worker has revealed he earns $2000 each week as a traffic controller — and it only took one day of training to score the job.
A Brisbane traffic controller has revealed he earns $2000 per week, as debate swirls around the lucrative job.
The worker said he did a course to qualify for the job, that took just one day.
“It just involves learning about the system and the rules.”
The money doesn’t come easily though, as the worker explained he puts in 11 hours shifts.
The Brisbane traffic controller was speaking to Getahead – a Brisbane-based tech start-up that bills itself as “like Tinder, but for jobs”. He said people wanting to get into the industry should get started straight away.
“It’s a great entry to the construction industry, aside from basic labour” he said.
He explained that traffic controllers don’t “stand around and do nothing all day”.
“Sometimes you’re standing on a bat all day, other times you have to do what we do which is managing a site,” he said.
He added that traffic controllers can earn up to $200,000 a year if they work on union sites, with the bigger the site the more money earned.
Despite his comments about working hard, his revelation sparked a debate about how much traffic controllers are paid.
“The most overpaid job for the least work possible,” one person argued.
“As an ex-traffic controller on a big construction site. I did f**k all and sat in the ute in an empty street getting paid $2700 a week after tax. I was on pedestrian watch lol,” another chimed in.
“It’s very boring job but the pay is good,” another added.
It comes after another traffic controller revealed she can earn up to $200,000 a year thanks to lucrative penalty rates and loading benefits.
Queenslander mother Suzie Rose said it was a “high-risk job” and she was usually first onsite and last to leave.
