IN HIS 10 years selling houses in Salisbury, Raine and Horne Salisbury agent Mark Lloyd has never come across a property like this one.

On the market for $890,000- $950,000, the circa 1840 house, at 20 Theta St, is all character charm and stunning gardens.

Mr Lloyd says it is the type of property more commonly found in blue ribbon suburbs close to the city - but this house has a significantly smaller price tag.

"If this was in the eastern suburbs it would be worth the upper one millions," he says.

"You're getting a lot of home for your money. It's on a half acre (2269sq m) block with beautiful botanic garden-style gardens and it's truly a home of yesteryear."

The house has been restored and renovated over the years and is in "move in" condition.

But Mr Lloyd says it has many original character features including working fireplaces and ornate ceilings.

Despite being five minutes from Parabanks Shopping Centre, it also has a secluded country feel, with electronic gates at the front.

The house comes complete with two peacocks, a large aviary and a hand-drawn picture of the property believed to have been done by its first owners in the 1840s.

The property also includes a separate two-bedroom transportable home, which could be rented out.
