Massive auction weekend ahead

IT’S set to be a very busy weekend of auctions across the country as sellers try to find buyers for their properties before the Easter break.

IT’S set to be a massive week of auctions across the country as sellers try to find buyers for their properties before the Easter break.

Figures from RP Data reveal there are 3696 properties listed for auction nationally this week, with the majority of those scheduled to go under the hammer on the weekend.

NSW has nudged ahead of Victoria taking out top spot with the highest number of auctions scheduled — 1513.

Victoria is close behind with 1494 homes looking for new owners.

In Queensland there are 391 properties for auction, while in South Australia 155 owners will try their luck.

Western Australia has 70 homes for auction, the ACT 48, Tasmania 19 and Northern Territory 6.

In terms of capital cities, Melbourne the most scheduled for auction making it the second biggest weekend of the year.

It will also be the city’s seventh weekend of more than 1000 auctions.

The rise in properties going under the hammer is being mimicked by private sales listings, according to the firm’s Victorian spokesman Robert Larocca.

“The unprecedented increase in the number of auctions is part of a wider rise in homes on the market over the last month,” Mr Larocca said.

“There are now 22 per cent more new listings compared to last year across Victoria which ensures a high level of choice for buyers. This high level of volumes should also keep the clearance rate in the mid 60s.”

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria has the weekend hot spots listed as Richmond, 30 auctions, Box Hill, 25, St Kilda, 25, South Yarra, 25, and Reservoir, 22.

The big numbers precede a pair of holiday weekends, Easter and Anzac Day, when the REIV has auction numbers tipped to tumble to around 60 and 340 respectively.

Among the properties going to auction this weekend are a home at 12 Viewside Crescent, Craigieburn.

Owner, Oksam Akdag, said that with prices rising around Melbourne and the chance to sell the property by a set date, the method suited her four-bedroom family home.

It will be auctioned through Ray White at 11am Saturday.

Sportsbet is tipping Sydney to ‘out auction’ Melbourne this weekend.

The online bookmaker has priced Sydney at $1.33 to have a better auction clearance rate this weekend compared to Melbourne priced at $3.00.

Shaun Anderson of sportsbet.com.au said it looked most likely that Sydney would come out on top this weekend.

“They had a stronger clearance rate last week, and the cold Melbourne weather looks set to stay all weekend.

In New South Wales a classic worker’s cottage in Gladesville which has had a complete renovation will be auctioned at 10.30am on Saturday.

The five-bedroom home, at 16 Mars St, is on a 720sq m block of land near Riverglade Reserve, St Joseph’s College, shops and transport.

It has an open plan ground floor area with the living space next to the kitchen. On the same level there are three bedrooms with built-ins. Although the property was originally listed with price expectations of more than $1.8 million, a surge of interest pushed the guide to $1.875 million days before the auction.

PRICE expectations have been revised upwards for 16 Mars St, Gladesville.

In Queensland an original Bahrs Scrub homestead is scheduled for auction on Saturday at 2pm.

The home at 17 Carol Street, is being marketed through the The Property Hub.

It was built in 1864 and sits on a 2.02ha block of land.

Also to go to auction at 10am is a home at 45 Dalrymple St, Wilston which is being marketed by Ray White

The four-bedroom home has city views. It sits on a 607sq m parcel of land. It has high ceilings and custom made ironwork on the terrace.
