Inside the $2m Atlanta property where singer R Kelly ran ‘sex cult’
Disgraced singer R Kelly was living in an up-market rental that cost more than $16,000 a month before he was put in jail, with the artist accused of heinous acts on the huge property.
Disgraced singer R Kelly had a history of renting out elaborate Georgia homes before a New York court this week sentenced him to 30 years prison for a string of sex crimes against women and children.
One such rental in Atlanta, where he was accused of holding several women hostage in what was branded a ‘sex cult’ in a report, sold last year, with the listing images giving insight into the kind of lifestyle he may have been leading.
The seven-bedroom house has a fitness room, spa with a pool, treehouse and tennis court. There is also a playhouse and outdoor kitchen.
The 2.5 acre property is located in an up-market gated community and the monthly rent was reported to be over $11,000 (A$16,000) a month.

It was listed last year for $2.1 million (A$3 million), later selling for under the list price, but media reports indicated Kelly was evicted in 2018.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution cited documents showing he owed more than $31,000 in overdue rent for the home and a nearby guesthouse.
Claims made against the singer in the documentary Surviving R Kelly were that he held women inside the house against their will. They were reported as needing to ask permission to use one of the home’s eight bathrooms.
Kelly was said to have rented other homes in the area and was also accused of carrying out crimes at the properties.
In court, the 1990s star was labelled as “wicked”. One woman said the singer made her “literally wish I would die”.
In September, the “I Believe I Can Fly” artist was found guilty on all nine charges he faced, including of racketeering.
The singer has been in jail since 2019 and faced another trial later this year on charges of child pornography, among other offences.
