A FAMILY home featured in Selling Houses Australia, and affectionately dubbed the gingerbread house, has been destroyed in the NSW bushfires.

Fires continue to threaten homes and lives, with hundreds of properties destroyed and 60 fires still burning across the state

Host of Selling Houses Australia, Andrew Winter, posted on his Facebook page yesterday:

"Very sad news! The house in Yellow Rock NSW featured in season 4 has been lost in the devastating Blue Mountains fires.

Sixty-one comments followed including additional comments by Andrew himself:

"I am told it is virtually the whole street gone, I recall the lovely young family next door, it is all too sad," he said.

The property was renovated in 2010 by the cast and crew of Selling Houses Australia and the long term Yellow Rock owners at the time eventually sold the house for $420,000.

Andrew, who is currently filming the next season of the hit Foxtel show, said he was alerted to the home's destruction by friends of a production staff member.

"I remember that the vendors at the time were a lovely couple. Bob was a self builder who'd spent years working on that house and it was very unique," he said.

"One thing I also remember about the property was that while it was in a beautiful location, it was absolutely encased in bushland," he said.

"But that's what the homeowner, and other residents out there, loved about it. And from memory the bush location didn't hinder the sale at all," Andrew said.

During the 2010 episode, Andrew, interior designer Shaynna Blaze and garden expert Charlie Albone had a $15,000 budget to renovate the three-bedroom house which was originally built in the late 1990s.

The "gingerbread house" had been built with recycled materials including bricks from a refractory kiln, stained glass windows, Oregon timber and local stone.
