ENTERTAINER Steve Vizard has defied a lacklustre Melbourne property market to sell his St Kilda mansion for around $7 million.

The Victorian Italianate house on Fitzroy St was on the market for a year.

It was listed for around $8 million, and was described by listing agent Kay & Burton as "a landmark property".

The house includes seven bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a home cinema, an infinity pool overlooking the city and a rooftop garden designed by Paul Bangay.

It was bought by former skateboarding champion Peter Hill, one of the founders of surf and skateboard brand Globe.

Pride Real Estate St Kilda director Margaret Duncan said the home was one of the most expensive sold in the area.

Ms Duncan said St Kilda appealed to buyers looking for a lifestyle.

"It's basically a fun place to live," Ms Duncan said.

Vizard and wife Sarah are believed to be staying in the area. The property was put on the market after the last of their children left home.

Vizard has previously proved himself a savvy real estate investor, selling his Toorak mansion for $17.75 million in 2007 to Good Guys boss Andrew Muir.
