Chris Pratt, Katherine Schwarzenegger’s huge $38m mansion backflip

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger have just backflipped on a huge life decision that could have netted the couple millions.

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger have taken their $US25.5 million ($A38.4 million) LA mansion off the market, just months after hacking more than $US6 million ($A9 million) off the price.

According to Realtor, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star, 45, purchased the Pacific Palisades property in 2018 for $US15.6 million ($A23.5 million) — and quickly set about demolishing almost the entirety of the structure, building an incredibly luxurious new home in its place.

So extensive was the work done on the home that its listing states it was built in 2021, when work on the residence was finally completed.

However, in 2023, the couple listed the megamansion for the eye-watering sum of $US32 million ($A48 million), more than double what Pratt paid for it. That price was reduced in June 2024, to $US25.4 million ($A38.2 million).

But that discount failed to land a buyer, and the pair — who are currently expecting their third child together — have now decided to withdraw the listing completely.

A source told Realtor that the duo plan to hold on to the enormous home until Schwarzenegger, 34, gives birth.

The actress, who is the daughter of Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, is due toward the end of October.

The source said she and Pratt will likely relist their home early in the new year when they’ve had a chance to settle into life with their newborn.

“Katherine is about to have another baby, and they’re going to move once she has the baby,” the source said.

“They’re staging the house now and are going to relist it in January or early February.”

According to the source, the couple had made an offer on the home before the deal fell through, prompting their decision to remove the listing altogether

After the birth of their third child, who will be a younger sibling to Lyla, 4, and Eloise, 2, and a half-sibling to Pratt’s son, Jack, 12, whom he shares with ex Anna Faris, the actor and his wife plan to move into their newly built mansion in Brentwood, California.

That mansion is located just a stone’s throw from Shriver.

The Brentwood property has been the source of much controversy in recent months after it was revealed that Pratt and Schwarzenegger had purchased a historic midcentury modern mansion designed by architect Craig Ellwood, only to raze it to make way for yet another brand-new megamansion.

Architecture buffs and real estate experts were horrified by the couple’s decision to tear down the original structure, known as the Zimmerman House, which dates to the 1950s and was considered a design gem.

“Unbelievable the notoriously onerous City of LA doesn’t allow anyone to do anything that makes actual sense – Allowed this midcentury modern house to be TORN DOWN,” US real estate agent Julie Chang wrote on X at the time.

“At the same time as architectural homes are being marketed as high-end, collectable art, others are being torn down to build new,” midcentury modern architecture expert Adriene Biondo said.

“Perhaps a historic-cultural monument designation could have saved the Zimmerman House, or allowed the necessary time to delay demolition. Tragically, calls for preservation fell on deaf ears.”

While work on that home appears to be ongoing, Pratt and Schwarzenegger will continue to have the run of their Pacific Palisades home.

The house is a six-bedroom, 12-bath, mansion set in a gated enclave. It looks out onto the Los Padres Mountains and the Santa Monica Bay coastline.

The modern home features five fireplaces and a fire pit, a home theatre with velvet seats, a glass-walled office, and a wellness centre with a gym, spa, hot and cold plunge pools, steam room, and sauna.

Outside are numerous patios and balconies, a saltwater pool, a hot tub, a half basketball court, a golf simulator, and a pool cabana with a full kitchen, pizza oven, and high-end barbecue.

In addition to their two homes in the Los Angeles area, the couple own a sprawling farm in Washington state’s San Juan Islands, where they have a host of animals, including chickens and sheep.
