Keeping cool and having somewhere to park the toys are the most popular features Queensland buyers are looking for in a home, according to new data.

According to new PropTrack data swimming pools, garages, and airconditioning top the list of the most searched keywords on realestate.com.au when it comes to buying a home in the sunshine state.

Property agent Adam Gould from LJ Hooker Cleveland said he wasn’t surprised by the data, with buyers wanting the added security of lockup garages.

“I’ve seen a lot of homes with carports; buyers want that added security of a lockup garage considering the last few years we’ve seen an increase of break-ins across Brisbane,” Mr Gould said.

“I’m also not surprised about the swimming pools either.

“With airconditioning, it’s an expectation of buyers; if you were to have two similar homes, one with airconditioning and one without, buyers would undoubtedly go with the one with airconditioning.

“It can cost around $10,000 to put airconditioning in, so the data makes sense. Most homes have airconditioning, and obviously, a benefit to buying a home with airconditioning in it is an expectation of buyers.”

Property agent Jason Yang from NGU Real Estate Air Conditioning had been a massive hit with interstate migrators from Melbourne and Sydney.

“I’ve had enquiries about heated pools in Queensland, which is almost unheard of up here,” Mr Yang said.

“Post-covid a swimming pool and more giant blocks of land so buyers have more room to entertain has also been a big hit with buyers.

Angus Moore, Senior Economist from PropTrack said the sort of features buyers in Queenslanders were looking for were consistent with the other states.

“The sorts of features buyers in Queensland are looking for are consistent with what we see across much of the country, but consistent with its warmer weather, pools and airconditioning rate a bit higher than we see in some other, cooler, parts the country,” Mr Moore said.

“The same is true for rentals. Pets are the top of the list pretty much right around the country, so seeing that at the top is not a surprise.
But searching for pools is more common in Queensland than elsewhere.”
