"Pants down, bum out": Drama filled Logan auction with over 50 bidders attracts surprise 'mooning'

A whopping 50 bidders, a crowd of over 150 people and a surprise ‘mooning’ spiced up the drama at a Logan renovator auction, which sold under the hammer for $615,000.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom renovator at 23 Robert Stanley Drive, Mount Warren Park, opened with a bid of $400,000 before quickly climbing up to the eventual selling price.

Auctioneer Justin Nickerson from Apollo Auctions said it was the first time ever in his career he had called an auction where a mooning had taken place.

“Look, I wasn’t expecting to see a ‘full moon’ at the auction; when you think you’ve seen everything, you haven’t. We were midway through the terms and conditions of the auction when a car went past and started beeping, then one of the passengers in the back seat, pants down, bum out. The crowd had a good laugh.” Mr Nickerson said.

“The market has started strongly this year; I can already see February/March will be strong. February is one of the most significant months of the year in terms of growth.

“49 buyers missed out on this one, and there isn’t another one coming up this week. That’s why they’re highly sought after when they come up.”

The new buyers of 23 Robert Stanley Drive, Mount Warren Park are from the Gold Coast and they intend on renovating the property and living in it.

Mr Nickerson said Logan’s price point was very attractive for first-time home buyers, investors, and developers entering the market.

“We’re going to see strong competition for any property like this one that comes to the market,” he said.

“More people are competing for an opportunity as soon as a renovator emerges. When they’re at a relatively low price point, it ticks boxes for investment, and they’ll continue to be intense competition.”

Property agent Aidan Knox from Ray White Marsden said the ‘mooning’ had never happened at one of his auctions.

“We only ran a three-week campaign, n and to get the result we did, I think we did our job correctly,” Mr Knox said.

“No one knows about Mount Warren Park; we invited the whole suburb, and word just got out. We really focused on generating a campaign that had a lot of interest.

Mr Knox said when looking at the other results in Mount Warren Park, the $615,000 price tag was impressive.

“There was recently a renovated 3-bedroom home that sold for $540,000. I think when vendors secure the right agent, who markets the property correctly and gets good numbers coming through, that is a good sign for sellers,” he said.

“The new owners are from the Gold Coast, and from what we’ve heard, they’re going to do the property up and live in it.”

Principal of Ray White Marsden Avi Khan said the mooning was a bit of entertainment from the crowd but he promised it wasn’t from his team.

“We’re feeling outstanding about the strength of the market, it’s humming,” Mr Khan said.

“The underbidder asked for another 10 minutes at the end of the auction; it was all very enthusiastic.

Coming off the success of the Crestmead and Browns Plains sales in 2023, Mr Khan said their strategy at Ray White Marsden wasn’t just selling properties.

“The locals have noticed what we’re doing with our auction campaigns; we’re not just getting local buyers, we’re getting national interest,” he said.

“28 buyers today were from somewhere other than Queensland. That is the presence we’re building across Australia. Our campaign strategies are clearly working, and the team are certainly rising to the occasion.”
