Gold Coast couple Rob and Alysha Pomie have cultivated an open-door policy at their beachside home, where versatile spaces over multiple levels allow for up to nine people to live together under one roof.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom home at 66 Sea Eagle Drive, Burleigh Waters is drawing big interest since hitting the market, in line with soaring demand for larger homes.

Marketed for auction on February 14 with Kollosche agent Lee McFarlane, it’s described as an “exciting multi-generational living or investment opportunity in a peaceful yet central pocket.”

New data from PRD reveals families are splurging more than ever for added space, with a clear increase in price linked to the number of bedrooms.

On the Gold Coast, a typical five-bedroom house now costs $1.6m — up $879,500 (89 per cent) since 2019. By comparison, the cost of a three-bedroom house has increased by 77 per cent, now sitting at $985,000.

Mrs Pomie, a natural health coach, said she and her 54-year-old lifeguard husband bought their house in 2017 and converted two front rooms to a self-contained flat to accommodate family members needing a place to live.

“At the time we bought this house it was pretty unique to find a property that could cater to several generations living together, but nowadays there are many more people looking for that, with families wanting to help their kids get established without paying exorbitant rent,” she said.

The home’s functional floor plan is a standout, with each level self-contained and accessed directly from outdoors, ensuring privacy for family members, tenants, or guests.

The top floor includes the master bedroom and large living, dining, and kitchen area opening to a patio. A further bedroom is serviced by a kitchenette on the middle level, while another living zone and three more bedrooms are downstairs. One bedroom is tucked in a private wing with an ensuite and adjoining games room with a bar.

Outdoors, a lagoon-style swimming pool, sundeck, and covered patio are surrounded by low-maintenance artificial turf.

The home has proven a haven for family and has also been rented out at times.

“My mother-in-law lived downstairs when we first bought it,” said Mrs Pomie, 44.

“My husband took on the role of primary carer, which was important to him, being able to look after his mum while she had her own space.

“It was beautiful for him to spend that quality time with her, and for our two girls to experience that whole cycle of life.”

Over the years, the couple and their daughters, Ava, 15, and Mae, 12, have hosted many other family and friends, with up to nine people living together.

But the property is also an attractive investment opportunity for a buyer looking to offset rising living costs.

“We’ve always kept a finger on the market, and it’s been interesting to see not only how prices have risen exponentially but also how what people are looking for in a home has changed,” Mrs Pomie said.

PropTrack data shows house prices in Burleigh Waters were up 5 per cent since last year, with a median of $1.54m.

The Pomies are selling up to pursue an off-grid lifestyle on an acreage property.
