The price and location were two things this home, just listed for sale, had going for it. It’s now sold for way over expectations.

Disco granny Ruth Barclay’s one-bedroom flat was attracting both first home buyers and investors because of its affordable price tag and location.

The recently upgraded stylish pad at 10/7A William St, Randwick, just 350m from Wansey Rd light rail stop, originally had a $700k guide for an August 17 auction when listed a week ago, lifted to $745,000 after an offer.

In our original story yesterday morning, Angus Gorrie of Ray White Eastern Beaches said: “We’ve already had one offer and there are lots of first home buyers interested and also astute investors, so it’s being very well received.”

By the end of the day, the sold sticker had gone up, as first home buyers put in further offers, with the Barclay family overjoyed with the $796,000 sale price and the lady purchaser glad to be leaving the rental market at last.

Barclay, a model in her younger years, often appeared on Channel V’s live dance program Room 208 spinning discs alongside drag performer Claire de Lune in the early 2000s.

Around about the same time, she developed a following as “Ruth from Randwick” on radio, being a regular caller to talkback shows across the city.

Having recently upgraded to a Potts Point resort for people of her age, the one-bedder she bought for $370,000 off the plan 24 years ago has to go.

Gorrie says the apartment is a winner for first home buyers and investors alike.

It has rent potential of $750 per week.
