Powerball Lotto: Winner bags $10 million jackpot | Winning numbers
A Sydney man who recently lost his job in the aged care sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic has become an instant multi-millionaire.
A NSW man in his 50s is celebrating his life-changing $10.3 million Powerball win which comes hot on the heels of a devastating job loss.
The Castle Hill man, who wished to remain anonymous, held the only division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1265 on Thursday night.
He will pocket the entire division one prize of $10,307,848.53, becoming the eighth Powerball division one winner so far this year.
The winner bought his 12-game entry online at thelott.com and the lucky numbers were 5, 24, 15, 16, 14, 32 and 6 and the Powerball number was 19.
Speaking to an official from the Lott this morning, the northwest Sydney man explained how he discovered his win late last night and had barely slept a wink since.
“I checked my ticket during the half time of the Sydney Swans and GSW Giants game last night. I saw I had a few missed calls, but I thought it was my friend trying to rub it in about the match so didn’t answer,” he said.
“I looked at my ticket and thought I had won $14.60. But then I realised that was the cost of the ticket.
“I saw how much I had won and I almost fainted.”
He said the first thing he would buy with the cash was a new set of teeth.
“I haven’t smiled in 20 years because my teeth are so bad. The first thing I want to get are some implants. I’ve spent the night looking at them online. I didn’t get to sleep until 5.30am this morning because I was just looking at teeth,” he said.
“I want to buy my first house as I’m just renting at the moment. An animal charity I support will do well out of this, as will some close friends.
“I’d also love to follow up my family history in Europe when we can travel again. And I’ve always wanted to go the US Masters Golf Tournament – it’s a tournament that just has a mystique about it.”
The man explained the win came at the perfect time as he was now out of work as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I was working in the aged care sector until recently, but lost my job because of COVID. Now I can relax. It’s a good time of life to win,” he said.
“I can’t believe this is happening.”
The multimillion-dollar prize comes just weeks after a young Liverpool man pocketed a stunning $20 million in late July.
His 50-game entry, purchased online, made him the seventh Powerball winner of 2020. Together, these seven winners have collectively taken home $289,995,334.21.
When asked how he intended to enjoy life as a multi-millionaire the following morning, the anonymous winner said he “can’t wait” to help his family out.
“I want to buy my parents a house,” he said. “I can’t travel at the moment, but as soon as I can, I will be straight on a plane to Las Vegas.
“There will be a few little splurges when I first get the money. I want to buy a ski boat and there will be a new car. I have to spoil myself a little.”
While he said there was “a lot to think about”, he said he might not only keep his job, but “work harder” in future.
“I want to save some for the future and invest some too,” he said.
“I don’t know what I will do with work. I could take it easy or work harder.
“But one thing is for sure, I will certainly be taking some time off to enjoy life as a multi-millionaire.”

Meanwhile, the Oz Lotto jackpot has surged to $10 million next Tuesday after the top $5 million prize failed to go off this week.
Earlier in July, a North Sydney woman claimed a $50 million Oz Lotto prize on the first lottery ticket she ever bought.
She purchased her winning ticket while on holidays at Sussex Inlet on the NSW south coast and originally had no idea she had hit the jackpot, waiting an agonising four days to claim her prize.
The most recent Oz Lotto winner was a Brisbane couple who woke up $6 million richer in late July.
The overwhelmed pair held one of the two division one winning entries nationally in the Oz Lotto draw 1380 on Tuesday, July 28. Each division one winning entry takes home $5,865,030.22.
