Scratchie winners’ priceless reaction after winning $200,000
THIS couple hit the jackpot with a scratchie win they say will transform their lives, with their priceless reaction captured on CCTV.
A FORMERLY homeless Perth man, 20, has been given a new lease on life thanks to a scratchie win.
Jordan Ross and his fiancee Jayde Hicks won $200,000, reversing their fortunes in a stroke of luck that provoked an emotional reaction caught on CCTV camera.
“When I got it, I was just bawling my eyes out, I was shaking,” Ms Hicks told 9News. “This money is life changing ... I was under so much stress and financial hardship.”
The pair were filmed at the Lucky Charm newsagent in Willetton, where they went to check their ticket — and learned the life-changing news.
The footage captured the moment Ms Hicks is told that she is holding a winning scratchie ticket — and her eyes widened in astonishment. Mr Hicks then threw his arm around his partner and they shared an ecstatic embrace.
While it’s far from a multi-million dollar jackpot, the six-figure sum was enough to transform the couple’s financial outlook.
They will now be able to pay for the wedding they’d been putting off, and splurge on a few other purchases.
Mr Ross told the station he had been living on the streets five years ago, and that he had bought a boat with part of the proceeds. He also plans to buy his mum a new car.
“She told me her dream car was a Mustang, so I’m just going to drop it into her driveway as a surprise,” he said.
