Queensland man reveals brutal plan for $200 million Powerball jackpot

One man has revealed exactly what he would do if he won the Powerball jackpot, and it’s likely his wife won’t be too impressed.

One bold Queenslander has likely landed himself in hot water at home after confessing on breakfast TV that he would skip town and not tell his wife if he scored the $200 million Powerball jackpot.

The anonymous Gold Coast local on Thursday was quizzed by Sunrise reporter Georgia Costi on what he would do if he won the record-breaking sum, and his answer was exceptionally brutal.

“(If I won, I’d) pack my bags, disappear, tell my missus I’m sick, and I’ll never be home again, and she’ll never know about it,” he confessed.

Meanwhile, others gave more practical answers.

“I’d probably go and get a new house, a new car and then probably retire,” one man said, while a woman announced she would have to “sit down and have a good think” if she won.

There were two winners in Thursday’s jackpot, which was the biggest lottery prize in Australian history.

Each winning entry took home $100 million, with one of the winning entries bought in Queensland and the other in NSW.

Twenty-two other entries took out division two, worth $177,092.75 each.

The numbers needed to win the draw were: 12 33 23 35 1 26 32. The Powerball was 10.

Thousands of entries per minute were be generated at lottery outlets and online as players rushed to grab a ticket before the draw closed at 7.30pm, while insane queues of hopeful Aussies were seen outside agencies.

The Lott website reportedly crashed in the last half-hour before the close of entries as punters made a last minute grab to win.

“It’s the highest it’s ever been,” Youssef Tannoury who manages a tobacconist in Cranebrook, in Sydney’s west, said. “Everyone wants to win $200m.”

Last year, a man from Bankstown in Sydney scored a $100m jackpot, becoming the second-biggest Australian lottery winner of all time.

In total in 2023, there were 20 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia who pocketed more than $552.15m in prize money.

Of the 20 Powerball division one winning entries in 2023, eight were sold in NSW, seven in Victoria, two each in South Australia and Western Australia, and one in Queensland.
