Two Australians have become instant multi-millionaires overnight after taking out the record Powerball draw, with 22 division two winners also scoring a potentially life changing $177,092.75 each.

Two Australians have become instant multi-millionaires overnight after taking out the record Powerball draw.

As well as the two $100m division one winners, 22 division two winners also won $177,092.75 each.

Thursday night’s winning numbers were 12, 33, 23, 35, 1, 26 and 32, plus the winning Powerball number of 10.

One of the winners was a couple from NSW’s Hunter River and the other from Queensland.

The Hunter River couple received their life changing phone call while lying in bed on Thursday night.

The NSW woman has revealed she plans to go on an overseas trip with her winnings and stop work.

“I absolutely won’t be working anymore. I mean, honestly, do I really need to?” she said.

“There’s always a lot of hypothetical questions of what I would want to do but now I’m just lost for words. I have no idea.”

The Lott officials are still searching for the mystery Queensland winner.

How does Powerball work?

There are two barrels. Seven winning numbers are drawn from the first barrel, numbered from one to 35 and one number drawn from the Powerball barrel, numbered from one to 20.

If there are no division one winners in a draw, the prize jackpots to the next draw. There are nine prize divisions. Powerball is Australia’s biggest jackpotting lottery game.

How do I play?

The quickest and easiest way is to play via a QuickPick entry, in which the numbers are randomly selected by the lottery terminal. Alternatively, you can opt for a marked entry, where you select the number of games and the numbers you want.

How do I win?

To win the division one prize, the numbers on your ticket need to match all seven winning numbers plus the Powerball number, in the same game.

What time is cut-off for buying a ticket?

The draw closes at 7:30pm (AEST) on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

When does the draw take place?

Shortly after the close of ticket sales, usually about 8.30pm.

When are results available to check?

The latest results for most Powerball games are available by 9pm the same night as the draw. Dividends for each game are updated following the draw and are generally available the morning after the draw.

Do I need to register my ticket?

No but if you do register your ticket to a player card or online account, you will be contacted straight after the draw if you win big. In October 2022, a Clyde man’s $53.3m share of the Powerball jackpot was revealed immediately following the record $160m Powerball draw, because he registered his entry.

Where and when catch I watch the draw?

Powerball draws are televised. You can catch the live draw on your TV, or by online streaming, on 7TWO at approximately 8.30pm.

How do I check my Powerball ticket if I miss the live draw?

Powerball winning numbers are usually available no later than Thursday 9pm via The Lott website. Tickets can be checked online, in store or by scanning them on The Lott phone app.

How long do I have to claim my prize?

The amount of time to claim a prize varies from state to state. In Victoria, prizes must be claimed within 12 months of the final draw date on the ticket. Once twelve months has passed, winners must submit their claim to the Victorian State Revenue Office.

What was the biggest Powerball jackpot before this one?

There was a $160m Powerball draw in 2022, which was shared between three winners.
