Mum claims $3m prize after accidentally purchasing Oz Lotto ticket

A woman has claimed the sole division one winning Oz Lotto prize despite purchasing her ticket in error.

A NSW mum has scored the entire jackpot in a life-changing Oz Lotto win but had never intended to purchase her ticket.

The woman from Taree on NSW’s Mid North Coast claimed a stunning $3m victory in Tuesday night’s draw but revealed to officials she had mistakenly entered the lottery after trying to buy a ticket for Wednesday’s draw.

The woman, who is in her 40s, said she had only bought an Oz Lotto ticket twice in her life.

“It’s unbelievable, it’s an extraordinary amount of money,” she said.

“I thought it might have been a mistake … I couldn’t sleep after that.

“The other day, I was getting my usual ticket and must have accidentally asked for a ticket into Tuesday’s draw instead of Wednesday’s.”

Fortunately, she held onto the ticket despite breaking from tradition.

“After the ticket was printed, I realised it was the wrong one, but I thought I should just hold onto it,” she said.

“I’m glad I did now. I’ve spent the night thinking about what I could do (with the prizemoney).

“There are some home renovations I would love to get done, and this just sets up my family for the future.”

The winning Oz Lotto numbers on Tuesday night were 26, 7, 38, 10, 37, 42 and 27, while the supplementary numbers were 47, 33 and 34.

The winning ticket was sold at CTC Taree, where owner Paul Rayment said he was thrilled to hear his shop had sold its first division one winning entry.

“That’s awesome! That’s the first one for us and it’s great to have one under our belt,” he said.

“Here’s to many more big wins for our customers.

“We wish our big winner all the very best with their prize.”

The Lott has recorded 222 division one winners since the start of the financial year, with 64 winners from NSW.

The 15 division one winning Oz Lotto entries from 2022 collectively won more than $275m, with seven winners in NSW, four in Victoria, three in Queensland, and one in Western Australia.
