‘How wrong I was!’: Man reveals initial dismissal before realising he was $100k richer in Lucky Lotteries draw
A man has revealed how he initially dismissed claims he and his wife had won a major lottery prize in the “sporadic” purchase of a ticket.
A NSW man has revealed the moment he initially brushed off claims he and his wife had won a new-found fortune – only to realise they were $100,000 richer.
The man, from Forbes in the state’s central west region, scored the first prize in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10825, drawn on Wednesday.
His winning entry of three consecutive numbers was purchased at News on Rankin that day.
The elated man said it was “surreal” when he was contacted about his winning number.
“I’m so nervous, dumbfounded, and shocked, but I’m so thankful. I don’t know what to say!” He said.
He revealed he and his wife only played “sporadically” and had forgotten they had the winning $100,000 ticket in the first place.
“We were at the shops and my wife had gone to buy a Powerball ticket while I ran a few errands,” the man said.
“I thought she’d disappeared. It seemed to be taking so long, so I walked in to find her, and she said: ‘Quickly, I think we’ve won!’.
“I thought: ‘Yeah sure, I’ve heard that before’. How wrong I was!”
The man said he hadn’t had a chance to think about how their lives will change but revealed they would likely jet off on a holiday and help out their families.
News on Rankin team member Madison Borwell said she and the team were over the moon to discover their outlet had sold a winning ticket.
“We’re so happy to hear the news that our small country outlet has sold a first prize winning ticket,” she said.
“The whole community is thrilled and sending congratulations and well wishes to the lucky winner.”
Meanwhile, Aussies still have a chance to score the nation’s second-biggest jackpot in history, as the Powerball draw swells to a whopping $150m.
No player held a division one winning entry in Thursday night’s Powerball draw, prompting the game’s prize to roll higher for the fifth consecutive week.
Despite expectations that up to half of Australian adults would have an entry in this week’s draw, not a single entry won division one.
Fifteen entries across Australia each scored $132,040.20 for the second division prize.
The winning numbers for the January 18 Powerball draw 1444 were: 21 31 17 22 20 24 34 and the Powerball 6.
