The Aussie who won $60m in Thursday’s Powerball draw has revealed why her husband hung up on lottery officials when he heard the news.

The Victorian woman who won $60 million in the Powerball draw on Thursday night has revealed her husband hung up on the lottery office when he learned the news.

The Daylesford woman was the only division one winner in draw 1429, picking up the eye-watering prize that is Australia’s second-biggest lottery win this year.

But, according to The Lott, there was quite a lot of confusion when officials tried to deliver the good news.

The Lott said it struggled to get a hold of the lucky anonymous winner because she wouldn’t answer her phone.

It wasn’t until she checked her ticket online that she discovered her life-changing new fortune.

“I’m in a bit of shock at the moment. Oh my god! I can’t believe this is happening,” she told lottery officials, once they finally got on the phone with her.

The woman also admitted her husband had accidentally hung up on officials while “in a frenzy”.

“My husband is walking around dumbfounded,” the woman said.

The winning numbers in Thursday’s Powerball draw were 11, 19, 4, 22, 3, 8, 14. The Powerball number was 5.

The winner, who is a recent retiree, said her numbers were chosen to commemorate the birthdays of close family and friends.

The winner plans on sharing the cash around.

But the Daylesford woman said she won’t keep the cash all for herself.

“I think a lot of charities might benefit, especially those that help disadvantaged children,” she said.

“This prize will help a lot of people out.

“It’s my main goal.”

And, according to The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell, the winner will only have to wait two weeks to start spending.

“There would be no better way to end the final months of 2023 (than) with a division one win in the bank on October 19. It would undoubtedly set the family up for a magical Christmas season,” Ms Hobdell said.

There were also seven division two winners in Thursday’s Powerball draw who took home $155,000 each.
