Adelaide man wins $2.3m from Saturday Lotto Megadraw after snap decision during Bunnings visit

The man was on a routine Bunnings trip when he made a “spur-of-the-moment” decision that would make him an instant millionaire.

A “spur-of-the-moment” decision during a standard Bunnings trip has made an Adelaide man an instant millionaire, winning more than $2.3m from Saturday’s lottery draw.

The man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was one of the 13 winners of the $30m Saturday Lotto Megadraw, with each division one winner taking home $2,307,692.31.

He said he went into the local newsagency on a whim before picking the winning numbers: 39, 38, 3, 2, 11 and 23, plus the supplementary numbers 22 and 35. The ticket was bought from Pimpala Newsagency & Gifts in the Adelaide suburb of Woodcroft.

“I was at Bunnings yesterday, and I just thought I’d go into the $30m draw, so I went and got a ticket,” the Adelaide man said.

“I’m trying to stay cool, calm and collected. I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet.”

He said receiving the news has been “surreal” and described the win as a “bit of good news just before 2024 starts”.

“I’ll have to spend the next week or so just thinking about how best to use it,” he said.

“I’ll probably put it into shares and investments and see what happens from there.

“I might even buy a new car.”

Four of his fellow winners were from NSW and Victoria, two were from Western Australia and one was from Queensland and the Northern Territory.

There were also 180 division two winners who won $11,358.45 each, plus 3342 division three winners who netted $925.90, with the total amount of earnings from Saturday’s megadraw equalling $68.7m.
