A record $150 million is up for grabs in two jackpots this week

THE biggest ever prize pool in Australian lottery history is up for grabs, with $150 million on offer in two jackpots.

The Tricks and Hacks to Winning the Lottery

IT’S the biggest ever prize pool in Australian lottery history — and it could all be yours.

This week there’s a record $150 million up for grabs in two jackpots — a $70 million Oz Lotto draw on today and an $80 million Powerball division one prize on Thursday.

It would set a new instant multi-millionaire benchmark should someone win both jackpots.

The combined prize pool of $150 million will be the biggest ever in one week since the first Australian lottery draw in 1881.

Thursday’s $80 million Powerball jackpot is the equal largest division one prize the game has had in its 22-year history, having last offered the massive prize almost a decade ago in 2009.

In January 2016, a Powerball ticket sold at Hervey Bay, in southern Queensland, won someone $70 million, setting the current Australian lottery record for an individual prize.

“If there is only one Powerball division one winner this Thursday night, we will have a new record for the biggest prize a single entry has won to add to the record-breaking week,” Tatts Group spokesman Matt Hart said.

Oz Lotto also holds the record for the largest ever single jackpot — a $100 million prize in 2012 that was won by four entries.

Even if you win one, you’re set for life, and it can happen.

In May this year a Sydney man in his 40s won nearly $2.5 million after winning the lotto twice in the space of a week.

According to NSW Lotteries, the man from Bondi was one of 14 division one winners in a $20 million draw who each took home $1,428,571. He also got several smaller wins bringing his total to $1,457,834.

That win came just days after he won a $1,020,487 in a Monday draw, bringing his total winnings to $2,478,321.

“I’m quite stoked. Twice in a week. I just thought, this is too good to be true,” the man was quoted by NSW Lotteries as telling the official who phoned to confirm his win. “Twice in a few days. The chances of winning twice in such a short period of time must be non-existent.

“I wish I had some advice to others on how to win the lottery but I don’t — God has just looked after me.”

So far this year, nine Powerball tickets have won a combined $121 million.

This included a Melbourne mystery winner taking home $55 million in July from a ticket bought in January.

Mr Hart said his best advice in this week’s divisions would be to “get in early to make sure you get your entry, and make sure you register that entry so we can give you that life-changing news straight after the draw.

“Imagine how your life could change with a multimillion-dollar division one prize.”

Oz Lotto began in Australia in 1994, while Powerball debuted in 1996.

Tickets can be bought at any licensed lottery outlet such as a newsagency or online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.
