$3 billion Powerball winner goes on massive spending spree
The man who won the record-breaking $3 billion Powerball in the United States is going on a massive spending spree.
Edwin Castro, who won the record-setting $3 billion (US$2.04 billion) Powerball jackpot in the United States, is spending his winnings on prime real estate.
Castro, who claimed the winning ticket just last month, opted for the one-time lump sum payment of $1.5 billion (US$997.6 million), lottery officials said.
CBS Los Angeles reports that Mr Castro treated himself to a $36 million (US$24 million) Hollywood Hills bachelor pad.
The mansion has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a real White Lotus vibe. Think sleek interiors with tasteful coastal vibes mixed in.
He didn’t stop there, though. He also bought a $6 million ($US4 million) house in Altadena - maybe because he feels the area is lucky because the home is only a few kilometres away from where he bought his winning lottery ticket at a local gas station.
It comes with a pool, a gorgeous backyard and even a cinema room.
Mr Castro took three long months to come forward after winning the lotto, and not much is known about Castro beside his name.
He is rumoured to have studied architecture at University in America and been an athlete in high school.
When he collected the prize he chose not to turn up in person but sent a statement along.
“As much as I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing, the real winner is the California public school system.
“The mission of the California Lottery, which is to provide supplemental funding for California public education — both public schools and colleges — makes this a huge win for the state.” the statement read.
The winner aims to live his new rich life quietly and privately.
