Mum’s Facebook posts reveals how her daughter’s letter and pocket money won home with lower bid
The family had been feeling hopeless about their property search after having 10 offers knocked back, but were blown away by the vendor’s generosity.
A heartwarming note from a 10-year-old girl convinced an Aussie couple to accept a lower bid, which helped secure the family their first home after a desperate search.
The mum-of-two revealed the family had moved to regional NSW in January 2020 and had rented for 12 months to investigate the area, before planning to buy their first home.
“By the time we were ready to purchase, so were everyone else who had discovered working from home due to Covid and the joys of a tree change,” the mum wrote on The Kindness Pandemic Facebook page.
“In our area, houses were only staying on market for 8-10 days and offers were usually accepted on the first open home.”
The family-of-four were starting to get “really discouraged” after they made 10 offers on houses in Wagga Wagga and missed out each time.
There was added pressure too as their rental contract was also coming to an end and the owner wanted to sell.

They found their dream home but it was just over their budget, the mum said. She spoke to real estate agent and decided to make an offer.
“Our two daughters were very involved in searching for a home and our 10-year-old was getting concerned so she decided to help us,” she said.
She penned the beautiful letter and also included $11.75 worth of coins for her parents to keep.
“Dear Mum and Dad, this is your money now for the house and other things if you want,” the girl wrote. “Don’t take them back they are yours now.”
The mum said the letter included her daughter’s pocket money.
”She … gave her pocket money ($11.75 which is worth a lot when you’re 10!) towards a house,” she said. “I thought it was so beautiful and sent it in with our offer.”

The vendors were incredibly moved by the note too. Despite offers over the asking price, they negotiated with the family and accepted a lower offer.
“They said they had two daughters themselves and remembered searching for their first home,” the mum wrote.
“We’ve been in our beautiful new home a month now, and are so grateful for the generosity shown to us.”
The mum later added in a comment on the viral post that the generosity of the vendors was “mind blowing” and she was creating a thank you gift for them including outfits for their daughters and a hamper for the parents.
More than 5000 people liked the post and 300 people commented.
“This is a beautiful story. Those people have shown so much kindness, this will have a lasting impression on your children,” said one woman.
“I love this. Business deals don’t have to be about money alone,” another wrote.
One user shared that a letter also helped her secure her house.
“Love this! The same thing happened to me. I kept getting out bid and my realtor suggested writing a letter to the seller,” she said.
“I did write that letter and I included little bit of history. How it would be my first house where I lived all alone in my 50+ years and how much it would mean to me. I got the house and they told me my letter touched them. Congrats to you and your family. Sounds you have two special girls.”
