Virgin Australia team up with Link Airways to offer more flights to regional Australia

Jetsetters will soon find it much easier to travel around Australia as two airlines team up to expand travel routes.

Flights to regional Australia will be more readily available to travellers, as Virgin Australia and Link Airways team up to expand travel routes.

The two airline carriers will be code sharing more than 90 services per week, including services to Inverell, Wollongong, and Biloela.

Virgin Australia Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Alistair Hartley said the new partnership will allow travellers the opportunity to fly to 42 Australian destination on a single booking.

“Today’s announcement in partnership with Link Airways underscores our commitment to delivering great value, flexibility and choice to Australians, and boosting connections for customers living in regional Australia,” Mr Hartley said.

“Importantly, the partnership is also set to support regional trade and tourism in destinations like Inverell, Wollongong and Biloela, which are not currently serviced by any other major airline.

“Together, our networks will be operating up to 365 daily flights across Australia, offering 42 domestic destinations for guests to explore, all while ensuring guests can enjoy seamless connectivity and loyalty benefits under our award-winning Velocity Frequent Flyer program when they travel.”

Link Airways Chief Executive Officer Andrew Major said the codeshare agreement will provide significant additional travel opportunities to passengers Australia-wide, particularly those in regional areas.

“Benefits will include better connectivity and more choice for regional customers thanks to Virgin Australia’s expansive route network,” Mr Major said.

New regional routes available

  • Brisbane – Coffs Harbour
  • Brisbane – Bundaberg
  • Brisbane – Biloela
  • Brisbane – Inverell
  • Brisbane – Narrabri
  • Brisbane – Dubbo
  • Brisbane – Orange
  • Brisbane – Tamworth
  • Brisbane – Armidale
  • Brisbane -Wollongong
  • Sydney – Narrabri
  • Sydney – Inverell
  • Melbourne -Dubbo
  • Melbourne – Orange
  • Melbourne – Wollongong
  • Canberra – Hobart
  • Canberra – Newcastle

The new agreement will see Virgin Australia’s regional flight options expand by about 45 per cent.

Travellers can book flights from Thursday, with the routes taking into effect from March.
