Qantas boss Alan Joyce opens hi-tech A380 service ‘shed’ in Los Angeles to make airline millions

QANTAS has launched the largest maintenance facility for A380 aircraft at Los Angeles airport, set to earn the airline millions in repair fees.

QANTAS hopes to earn millions of dollars from rival carriers using the Flying kangaroo’s new A380 maintenance shed in Los Angeles.

The massive hangar is the only purpose built A380 facility in North America with the capacity to service four of the super jumbos at once.

Opening the hangar at LAX, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said as well as maintaining their own aircraft, the facility would provide services for other airlines, potentially generating millions of dollars for the carrier.

“Some of the contracts we’ve already generated would suggest you could generate millions of dollars from this facility,” said Mr Joyce.

“Anything is incremental because we would’ve built it anyway.”

Passengers will also benefit from the efficiencies of the state-of-art maintenance facility, he said.
