Kanye West’s Yeezy deal with Gap threatened as share value drops

The rapper and presidential wannabe has threatened to kill off a massive deal with retailer Gap – unless he nabs a spot on its board.

Kanye West: Was his presidential rally a cry for help?

Rapper Kanye West has caused a share price fall after issuing US clothing juggernaut Gap with a tough ultimatum.

The retailer has recently struck up a partnership with West’s Yeezy brand which was expected to rake in $US1 billion ($A1.4 billion) in yearly sales after five years.

But on Monday, Gap’s stock fell by as much as 7.4 per cent after it emerged that West had threatened to pull out of the deal unless he was placed on the Gap board.

His comments were made at a public event over the weekend, and he also made similar threats to “walk away” from Adidas, which produces his brand’s sneakers, at the same time.

“In risk or no risk of losing whatever deal possible, I am not on the board at Adidas. I am not on the board at Gap,” West said on Sunday in South Carolina, according to the New York Post.

“And that has to change today, or I walk away.”

The 10-year Gap-Yeezy partnership was announced just last month, and was expected to create a new range of clothing to be released in 2021 which would include “modern, elevated basics for men, women and kids at accessible price points”, with the news sending Gap shares soaring nearly 19 per cent.

So far neither brand have commented publicly.

The 43-year-old, who is married to reality star Kim Kardashian, made the comments during a largely incoherent address during his first 2020 presidential campaign rally.

The father-of-four made headlines around the world earlier this month, after announcing his surprise bid for the White House in a tweet.

West also revealed he was running as an independent under the banner of “The Birthday Party”.

“We must now realise the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020 VISION,” he wrote.

At the same rally over the weekend, West also allegedly left his celebrity wife “shocked beyond words” after he told the crowd the couple considered aborting their first child, North, now aged seven.

“(Kim) had the pills in her hand,” an emotional West said.

“My girlfriend called me screaming, crying. I’m a rapper. And she said, ‘I’m pregnant.’ She was crying.

“I almost killed my daughter.”

And earlier today, West accused his wife and mother-in-law Kris Jenner of trying to “lock him up” in a series of explosive tweets.

Kanye, who has bipolar disorder, sent a flurry of disturbing tweets from his ranch in Wyoming.
