Millions of Australians who were unable to bank online or through their app are now able to log on, after a “technology issue” with a third-party saw them locked out of the services.

An ANZ outage reported around lunchtime on Tuesday sparked chaos across the nation, with online banking and the official app unable to be accessed by customers.

An ANZ spokesman told NewsWire customers began to regain access to the ANZ app and ANZ Transactive Global from 2.45pm on Tuesday, blaming an outside vendor for the issue.

“We’re currently investigating a technology issue relating to a third party vendor,” he said.

“This has affected customers accessing some systems including the ANZ App, Internet Banking and ANZ Transactive Global.

“We continue our work to resolve any outstanding impacts as soon as possible and apologise for the inconvenience.”

During the outage, customers were still able to access the ANZ Plus app, Phone Banking, ATMs and EFTPOS facilities across the country.

ANZ earlier confirmed an investigation was underway after customers reported the issue just before midday on Tuesday.

“We’re investigating an issue affecting some customers accessing the ANZ app and internet Banking,” ANZ said in a statement posted on X.

“We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible and apologise for the inconvenience.

“The ANZ Plus app, Phone Banking, ATMs and EFTPOS facilities continue to be available.”

Customers have taken to social media to share their outrage as they try and fail to access their money.

One customer said he was “legit stuck” without the app on a work day.

Another stated they were trying to process their payroll and “staff won’t be happy if they can’t get paid”.

A frustrated customer said ANZ should “reimburse people” for the inconvenience.

“Great, another quality service by ANZ,” he wrote on X.

“What are you guys even trying to run, I haven’t been able to access my bank at all.

“Too bad if some people were at a servo or stuck in a parking lot you (got to) pay to get out of.”

Another added: “Please hurry up, I want my KFC”.

An ANZ customer service officer replied to one complaint on X after the person complained their app and desktop online banking were not working.

“Unfortunately, we have an ongoing system outage with our ANZ app and internet banking,” the ANZ worker replied on X.

“We are working to resolve this as soon as possible and apologise for the inconvenience.”
