Models, reality TV stars and podcasters have been among those to hit the red carpet in Sydney to celebrate the premiere of the highly anticipated new series, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

The show, which is streaming now on Binge, is set in Los Angeles in the 1980s and 1990s and follows the rise of the LA Lakers basketball team.

It features Hollywood newcomer Quincy Isaiah in the lead role as a young Earvin “Magic” Johnson, alongside stars including John C. Reilly, Sally Field, Adrien Brody, Jason Segel and Australian actor Jason Clarke.

Isaiah flew in from the US and joined Clarke as a guest of honour at the Binge event in Vaucluse, Sydney, on Wednesday night.

The 26-year-old was working as a bartender and assistant in his home town when he landed the role in 2019, and told Confidential that he was “so grateful” for the opportunity that has changed his life.

“I didn’t get here by myself,” Isaiah said. “I am trying to respect that and pay it forward because there are people that looked out for me and made sure that I was able to get lunch or dinner that day, or that I had gas in my car and got to an audition. I am just so grateful.”

Married At First Sight star Cam Merchant also hit the ‘blue’ carpet, co-ordinating well with the backdrop in jeans and a pink blazer.

Clarke, who plays Jerry West (the NBA star-turned-league executive) in Winning Time, opted for a neutral palette as he stood alongside a basketball hoop.
