Tim Minchin joins Upright season 2 cast at Sydney premiere
Stars have hit the red carpet for the premiere of the second season of Foxtel’s hit series Upright, starring Tim Minchin and Milly Alcock.
Stars of the hit Foxtel series Upright have hit the red carpet for the show’s Sydney premiere.
Former Home And Away and Packed to the Rafters actress Jessica McNamee, who has joined the cast for the anticipated series two, looked stunning in a sheer brown shirt with blank pants at the Enmore Theatre for a special screening Tuesday night.
Australian comedian Tim Minchin, who wrote the show and has previously described it as the highlight of his career, was also in attendance at the event where guests were treated to the first three episodes, with the show dropping on Foxtel* November 15.
Series two picks up four years after the events of the previous season, with misfit duo Lucky (Minchin) and Meg (Milly Alcock) reuniting for yet another Aussie adventure, this time, on a mission to find Meg’s mum in Far North Queensland.
Carrying on with themes that made the show critically acclaimed in the first outing, Upright season 2 is an exhibition in complex characters, amusing twists and laugh-until-you-cry moments.
Alcock, who shot to global recognition in the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, was not able to make it to the premiere.
The HBO prequel marked her major transition from local projects to shows with international reach. But before her big break, the Sydney-born actress, 22, scored her debut starring role in the first season of Upright in 2019, in which she played the loveable, rebellious teenager, Meg.
And she returns yet again to star alongside Minchin for the eight-episode series with a layered, witty and utterly charming performance which cements her as one to watch.
After shooting House of the Dragon overseas, Alcock returned to her home country to shoot the second series of Upright, which was shot in Queensland earlier this year.
Alcock previously told the Sydney Morning Herald she pulled the pin on studying her diploma in order to accept her role in Upright a few short years ago – which turned out to be a winning decision.
“School’s never been for me. I’ve never been somebody who’s thrived in the school environment,” she told the publication.
“There’s a stigmatisation of people who drop out of high school. But I couldn’t turn down Upright for a piece of paper. That just seemed ridiculous to me and infuriating.”
Elsewhere in the extended cast for the returning series is Australian legend Noni Hazlehurst, Hayley McElhinney, Darren Gilshenan, Tom Budge, Anita Hegh and Travis Cotton.
