Netflix’s Crime Scene: The Vanishing At The Cecil Hotel trailer reveals bizarre unsolved crimes

Netflix has released the first trailer of its new crime documentary about the mysterious deaths at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles.

A creepy new trailer from Netflix lets fans behind the doors of the notorious Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Over the years, the hotel has been home to some of the most bizarre crimes, multiple murders and was even the stomping ground of evil serial killer Richard Ramirez aka The Night Stalker.

The trailer for Crime Scene: The Vanishing At The Cecil Hotel speaks to investigators and hotel staff about the slew of grisly crimes that happened under the hotel’s roof.

“Is there a room here that maybe somebody hasn’t died in,” says the hotel manager in the opening scenes of the trailer.

“I never got used to that. Never got used to that.”

The main focus of the new docuseries which premieres on February 10 revolves around the bizarre and tragic case of Elisa Lam.

In 2013 the college student was staying at the Cecil when she vanished, igniting a media frenzy and mobilising a global community of internet sleuths eager to solve the case.

Her strange death happened after she was last seen in one of the hotel’s lifts on the day of her disappearance.

In the footage, Ms Lam can be seen acting strangely as she steps into the lift and begins pressing every button in the panel.

She eventually steps out and pokes her head out to see who is in the hallway and does that a few times until she decides to walk out completely.

The last of the video shows her standing by the left side of the door waving her hands and making random gestures.

She is not seen talking to anyone and is the only one captured on tape.

The video made the rounds on the internet and amassed over tens of thousands of views, as many found her behaviour in equal parts strange and chilling.

It was the last footage of Lam alive. Her body was found weeks later in the water tank on the hotel’s roof, wearing the same clothes shown in the lift footage. Bizarrely, all her personal belongings and her room card were found with her, floating near her lifeless body.

Built in 1924, the Cecil Hotel is owned by a man named Herb Chase.

It has been the setting for notable murders such as actress Elizabeth Short, aka the “Black Dahlia”. The 22-year-old aspiring actress was seen having drinks at the hotel in 1947, days before she was found dead, her body sliced in two, cuts on her face running from the corners of her mouth to her ears. Her murder has never been solved.

Then in 1964, “Pigeon Goldie” Osgood, a retired telephone operator, was found dead in her room at the Cecil. She had been raped, stabbed and beaten, and her room was ransacked. Her murder remains unsolved as well.

Also at one point in 1985, the hotel was the home to notorious serial killer Richard Ramirez, known as the “Night Stalker”, as well as Austrian serial killer Jack Unterweger, who had the nickname the “Vienna Strangler”.

It has served as inspiration to screenwriter and horror-extraordinaire Ryan Murphy, as he based American Horror Story: Hotel on the Cecil and Lam’s story.

The new Netflix series is directed by Joe Berlinger who also made Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.
