A woman accused of being the ‘real-life Martha’ has raged at Netflix’s Baby Reindeer after receiving death threats.

The hit Netflix show is based on the life of comedian Richard Gadd, and a stalker who sent him more than 41,000 emails, 350 hours of voicemails and 106 pages of letters.

Richard, 34, stars in the series as himself, while actor Jessica Gunning plays Martha Scott, the stalker.

The comedian has never revealed the identity of the real-life ‘Martha’, but fans of the series claim they have found her, despite Richard urging them not to try to identify anyone from the show.

Now, a Scottish woman accused of being the ‘real Martha’ has spoken out and insisted: “I’m the victim here.”

The woman spoke to The Daily Record – with the publication deciding not to identify or name her – and revealed she had received death threats from Baby Reindeer fans.

She said: “I’m the victim here, not Richard Gadd.

“I’ve had death threats as a result of his show despite the fact that a lot of the things he claimed are just not true.

“Someone online said, ‘If I find you I will kill you’. A guy in North Carolina said that he and other people were going to stalk me

like I am supposed to have stalked Gadd.

“I got two hours’ sleep last night. I thought, what if his supporters really do things like that?”

The 58-year-old has a law degree and said she has not seen the show but is aware of various scenes that supposedly depict her.

The creepy series has become a word-of-mouth Netflix hit.

She added: “I was in Richard Gadd’s company on occasions but I didn’t stalk him like he claims.

“His story is that this is a gross intrusion into my privacy. I haven’t seen him for 12 years.”

She also said she was in his company “two or three times” and other people were always around.

She said: “It wasn’t a case of me going out with Gadd for a meal or going on picnics with him.

“There were always other people around and we have not slept together.”

The ‘real Martha’s’ words come as online sleuths attempted to hunt down the real-life man who repeatedly sexually assaulted Richard’s character Donny in the show.

They ended up sending abuse and death threats to a man unrelated to the events the show is based on.

The individual, who was wrongly accused by fans, had to report his harassment to the cops.

A spokesman for a British police force confirmed: “We’re investigating after a man reported receiving threatening messages on social media.

“Enquiries are at an early stage and we are in the process of gathering information from the victim.”
