Weeks after releasing a teaser trailer to whet fans’ appetite, US streaming giant Peacock has shared the first official trailer for the series, which will stream locally on BINGE from January 11.
With creator and star Seth MacFarlane back both in front and behind the camera, the jokes are next-level in this series that acts as a prequel to the two R-rated films about a cheeky teddy bear (voiced by MacFarlane) that magically comes to life.
In the movies released in 2012 and 2015, John Bennett is played by Mark Wahlberg. But in this offering, John is transported back to the ‘90s to his childhood where at aged 16 he must navigate high-school with his foul-mouthed furry best friend.
John is not as cool as his peers, so Ted decides to help him get up to speed with his classmates in all aspects of life, including drugs, sex and relationships. But, naturally, chaos unfolds.
“Hey Johnny — how bad is school gonna suck?” Ted asks at the beginning of the trailer.
“You’re not gonna like it,” responds John. “It’s like getting your nuts smashed together so hard they become just one nut.”
MacFarlane and his co-executive producers, writers and showrunners, Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, are all excited to bring their the show to light from a different perspective.

“Our series is a prequel to the Ted movies. It takes place in the ’90s but is based on the timeless truth that being 16 sucks,” they said in a recent statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“The only thing that makes it tolerable is going through it with a friend, even if that friend is a has-been magical teddy bear with a foul mouth and a proclivity for drug use.”
The first film grossed around $US500 million ($773 million) in the US box office alone.
Ted 2 premiered in 2015 and although it was seen as a box office smash – grossing $US81.5 million ($125 million) in the US – it was not well-received by fans.
Ted premieres Thursday, January 11 on BINGE and at 8.30pm on FOX8 and available On Demand.
