Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson says people mistook him for a girl
He’s one of the fittest blokes in Hollywood, but Dwayne Johnson has revealed that wasn’t always the case.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says that people often thought he was a little girl growing up.
The former pro wrestler, who celebrated his 49th birthday at the weekend, said that people he met were often confused by his “soft features” as a child.
“I would say between the ages of 7 and 11, people thought that I was a little girl because I had really soft features and I had really soft Afro hair,” Johnson, who is black and Samoan, said on Sunday Today With Willie Geist.
Johnson, the son of pro wrestler Rocky Johnson, moved around so much as a child that he went to 13 schools by the time he entered high school.

He described one memorable moment on the school bus on his first day of fifth grade, as he promotes his new series Young Rock, which airs locally on Foxtel.
“I sit down next to a kid, and within 60 seconds, he goes, ‘Can I ask you something?’” said Johnson. “I said, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘Are you a boy or a girl?’”

These days, the Hollywood heavy hitter – who has a net worth of $520 million – has been fielding questions about a rumoured future run for the White House.
In April, a poll of more than 30,000 Americans conducted by Piplsay found that 46 per cent of people would consider voting for the Jumanji star for president.
“Not sure our Founding Fathers ever envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick-up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club,” the star tweeted after the poll came out.
“But if it ever happens it’d be my honor [sic] to serve the people,” he added.
Talking to Geist, the Young Rock star added that he’d make a bid if that’s “what the people want”.

Young Rock is Johnson’s comedy series based on his outrageous youth and climb to the top in a coming-of-age story.
“As you can imagine, Young Rock is a very personal project for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to have Foxtel as the show’s Australian home,” Johnson said.
“We shot Young Rock in Queensland for five months and everyone was so welcoming to our production. The local Australian cast and crew – including Sydney’s own Uli Latukefu who plays ‘college years Dwayne’ and directors Daina Reid and Jeffrey Walker – were simply amazing, treating us all like family during these challenging times.
