Colin From Accounts’ Tai Hara shares secrets from hit series ahead of Season 2 premiere
Former Home And Away star Tai Hara opens up about that sneaky kiss in the hit comedy Colin From Accounts.
It’s widely known that Colin From Accounts is the brainchild of real-life husband and wife team Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer.
But did you know that another real-life couple also appeared in Season 1 of the hit BINGE comedy?
In a blink or you’ll miss it moment, Tai Hara – who plays Ashley’s ex-boyfriend James on the show – shared a sneaky kiss with his on-screen colleague, nurse Tessa, who also happened to be his real-life wife, former Hi-5 star Fely Irvine.
“Fel and I actually haven’t had the chance to work together professionally, so it was our first chance to do that. It was absolutely amazing,” the former Home And Away star recalled of the intimate moment to news.com.au.
“It’s always so much fun to get to do anything with the person you love. She was amazing and it was just such a treat that we had the chance to do what we both love on screen together, but also playing characters. That was a bit of fun too, a little bit of role-play there.”
Stream Colin From Accounts Season 1 now and Season 2 from May 30 on BINGE, available on Hubbl.
The couple met on when they auditioned for the Aussie children’s entertainment group Hi-5 more than a decade ago.
While Irvine got the part, unfortunately Hara did not - but the audition brought the pair together and they were married years later in 2017.
They now share two children: daughter Chi, 3, and son Soleil, 16 months.
This week, Hara will reprise his role as James in Season 2 of Colin From Accounts, which premieres on BINGE on Thursday, May 30.
This highly anticipated season sees James and Ashley’s (played by Dyer) backstory told after she pined for him in pretty much all of Season 1 following their mysterious break-up.
“It was always such a fun character for me to come and be involved in,” Hara tells us. “It’s very much Ash and Gordon [played by Brammall], their love story, but to be that little barb in the history is always a lot of fun to play with.”
“James and Ash’s relationship is really juicy. So I was always so excited to be involved from Season 1, but to be able to come back and explore that even further in Season 2 has just been really, really exciting. There’s always underlying tension from their past relationship – there’s definitely some fun fireworks for Season 2.”
The first season was an absolute hit and saw Colin From Accounts sweep up during awards season.
It won Best Narrative Comedy Series at the 2024 AACTAs, as well as a trio of Logies last year: Most Outstanding Comedy Program, Most Outstanding Actor and Most Outstanding Actress for Brammall and Dyer, respectively.
“I think when you set out to make any show, you hope that it’s going to be good, but you don’t quite know until it gets put in front of an audience,” Hara says.
“But Pat and Harry just have funny in their bones. They’re so wildly brilliant, so we knew we were onto something good. They’re just a joy to play with on set to watch work and the way that they spitball off each other to create magic is really just something that’s so unique.”
“But to see how it’s been taken all over the world has just been the biggest joy. It’s really great.”
There is Emmy buzz around the show too, with reports it will soon be screened in the US.
“It’s just a testament to Pat and Harry and how brilliant they are in the series and their writing as well,” he says. “They created it, it’s their baby and we are also fortunate enough to come along for the ride.”
“But it’s always so rewarding to see your show do well, whether that’s here or overseas, but for an Australian series to be accepted and widely acclaimed now in the UK and hopefully in the US too... I know there’s a lot of buzz around there now as well. It’s been such a joy to watch.”
Colin from Accounts premieres Thursday, May 30 on BINGE, available on Hubbl, and on Showcase at 8.30pm and available On Demand.
