Beloved Aussie actor Cameron Daddo had a very colourful trip down to Mexico where he dared to try one particular local delicacy.

A colourful expedition from one end of the Pacific Ocean to the other awaits on this week’s episode of Luxury Escapes: The World’s Best Holidays.

The popular Foxtel travel show features a different pair of celebrities on the weekly episodes and this week, Aussie actor Cameron Daddo and former Bachelor starHolly Nicholson will be our presenters.

The duo didn’t do things by halves on their episode, which airs on the Lifestyle channel on Thursday evening, taking fans from Mexico to South Korea to Japan to explore two very different cultures connected by one ocean.

First stop was Los Cabos, Mexico, where the sun shines 350 days a year and the guacamole is on tap. Daddo and Nicholson stayed at the plush Montage Los Cabos resort which overlooks Santa Maria Bay and is hailed the best resort on the Baja peninsula.

“It’s where the celebrities go to holiday, plus Cameron Daddo and I,” joked Holly on-air, while also telling news.com.au that this was her most luxe vacation to Mexico ever and made her feel like she was “filming an ep of the Real Housewives of Orange County”.

“It was heaven. My villa was something else. I had 3 bedrooms to choose between each night (if only I had that luxury when my husband snores at home), beautiful views of the ocean and a fire pit out the front. Not too shabby!” she says.

As for Cameron, this wasn’t his first visit to Mexico either. Having lived in California with his wife Alison Brahe and their children for decades, Mexico was pretty much his playground as it is only a 2.5 hour plane ride away from LA.

But the beloved actor had never seen the hot spot like this before.

“Having lived in California for many years, I have enjoyed the chance to visit Mexico a few times, but never like this,” he tells news.com.au.

“The resort we stayed at Montage Los Cabos is a sanctuary perched upon the premier beachfront of Cabo.

The duo enjoyed a speed boat ride to the world-famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas, snorkelled along the crystal clear coast line amd enjoyed a cooking class at the foothills of Sierra La Laguna mountains.

“We did an awesome cooking class on a beautiful farm in Mexico. Cam took the recipes from this class, still patiently awaiting an invite for a Mexican home cooked meal at the Daddo household,” Holly says.

Speaking of food, they ate many gourmet Mexican delights, including a dried scorpion.

“At night we feasted on sushi and other seafood treats and finished it off with incredible deserts of the likes I have never experienced,” Cameron shares, before recalling eating his first scorpion.

“Later on, we were treated to Tequila and Mezcal [restaurant] tasting, that included eating a dried scorpion…. what?!!

“‘Like’ is not the word I would say. ‘Crunchy?’” he laughs while describing the delicacy.

Holly agrees that sampling street food is “always a feast for the senses and an opportunity to discover and experience another culture”.

“The Mexican way is so diverse and full of colour, it’s impossible to walk away and not feel inspired,” she said.

Next stop on their adventure was Japan and the South Korea, which they stayed on-board the Heritage Adventurer expedition cruise.

The ship has a maximum capacity of 140 people making it an intimate, boutique experience like no other.

The pair got the quintessential Japanese experience, exploring the stunning Yuushien Gardens on foot before taking a boat ride to Miyajima Island in Hiroshima where they saw the Itsukushima Shrine, aka the floating Torii gate, which locals believe to be the gateway between the spiritual and physical world.

South Korea was just as inspiring for the pair with a mix of old and new. They marvelled in the architecture and ate street food at the popular food and culture Hwangnidan-gil district in Gyeongju.

But for both Cameron and Holly, the company was just as memorable.

“The man is always smiling, always cracking dad jokes, sharing his countless hilarious industry stories and continuously offering to lug my stuff around,” Holly says of Cameron. “It’s impossible to have a bad day with CamDad around. He’s a true gentleman.”

As for Holly, Cameron says anyone who is up for a laugh and is willing to give it a go, has his vote.

“Holly is fabulous travel buddy. She’s always up for an adventure, ready with a smile and a clever quip about something,” he says. “She’s also a quite the seasoned traveller who researches the best places to visit, restaurants and fun things to do.”

“It helps that she’s a whiz at Instagram (and the great thing for me is), she’s generous with her tips and tricks. I am way better at travelling and documenting my travels thanks to Holly.”
