Katy Perry was brutally shut down on The Project last night as she attempted to play reporter while kicking back with the studio audience.

As well as sitting at the desk with the show’s hosts, the American pop star decided to switch it up and be the one asking the questions.

Sitting among the audience at The Project’s Melbourne studios, Perry struck up as conversation with a charming older lady named Miss Edna, asking her questions about her favourite artists, star signs and how she looks great at 102 years old.

“You are also welcome to my show. I said [ages] 8 to 80, but there is no limit. Age is a construct,” Perry told her before asking who were her favourite musicians.

“I like quite a few, really,” Miss Edna replied. “I like them all, darling.”

Perry, 39, couldn’t help but name-drop her famous partner as well, when she realised Miss Edna was born in January, making her star sign Capricorn.

“January? You’re Capricorn. Good for you. So is Orlando Bloom, my partner,” Perry said, before gushing, “He’s a movie star.”

Pushing 40, the Firework singer then asked Miss Edna for her secrets and tips to looking and feeling good.

“One little last question: my grandma almost lived to about 100 and her secret was having a glass of white wine every night. What’s your secret?” Perry asked.

After Miss Edna said that a glass of wine every night was “naughty” and she prefers “a glass of water”, she added that dancing since she was 3 years old and exercising all her life are her secrets to longevity.

“So what if I go to the club with my white wine and start dancing. Will I live to 102?” Perry surmised.

That’s when Miss Edna shut her down with a succinct, “No”, which left Perry momentarily speechless.

“It’s just a ‘no,’” the singer said in a semi-Aussie accent after recovering from her shock.

“We didn’t expect it to be so brutal,” host Waleed replied from the desk, as Harris laughed.

It was all smiles until the singer was shut down by Miss Edna with one word.

Perry is currently in Australia to headline the AFL grand final on Saturday when the Sydney Swans take on the Brisbane Lions at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

It was reported by The Herald Sun that Perry will be paid $5 million for the event, during which she will perform five songs, essentially earning a whopping $1 million for each song.

Yesterday, after touching down in Australia, Perry also announced she will be touring the country in June 2025 for her Lifetimes Tour.

“I am super keen to announce The Lifetimes tour, and I’m rolling out dates first in Australia,” Perry said on Sunrise on Wednesday morning.

“It’s been a long time, but I feel like I’m totally ready for it. It’s a high energy singalong with all the songs that everybody knows and more.”

The tour will kick off in Sydney on June 9 before heading to Melbourne on June 12 and 13, Brisbane on June 17, and Perth on June 22.
