The beloved Gold Logie winner, who hasn’t appeared on the small screen since Nine Perfect Strangers in 2021, has begun production on a new Binge* original series inspired by Mia Freedman’s memoir.

The 48-year-old actress will play the lead role of Evelyn Jones in comedic drama Strife, a new commission by The Foxtel Group from Australian producer Bruna Papandrea’s production company, Made Up Stories.

The show, and Keddie’s involvement, was announced at Foxtel upfronts in Sydney in October last year, where the cable company unveiled its programming line-up for 2023.

The series, which is set in the “ever-changing world of publishing during the emerging digital age”, is based around Freedman’s book Work, Strife, Balance.

“The comedic drama series tells the story of a modern, imperfect woman and publisher named Evelyn Jones (Keddie) and her journey from lounge room blogger to becoming a force in women’s media,” Binge detailed in a press release.

Keddie will be bolstered by an ensemble cast including Jonathan LaPaglia, as well as Matt Day, Tina Bursill, Emma Lung, Maria Angelico, Rhys Mitchell and Olivia Junkeer.

Strife was written and adapted for screen by screenwriter Sarah Scheller, and is directed by Stuart Bowen.

Papandrea, Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky serve as executive producers for Made Up Stories, alongside Freedman, Keddie, Scheller, and Binge executive director Alison Hurbert-Burns.

Late TV icon Brian Walsh, who died last week aged 68, was commissioner and executive producer.

“Strife is a strong, character driven Australian story, the likes of which Binge seeks to tell, stories that delight both local audiences and capture global appeal,” Hurbert-Burns said.
