Sarah Jessica Parker has explained exactly why she wouldn’t be okay with Kim Cattrall ever returning to the Sex and the City franchise.

Sarah Jessica Parker has shut the door on Kim Cattrall’s return to the Sex and the City franchise.

Amid growing talks for a season 2 of the HBO series’ reboot, And Just Like That, which aired its finale on Binge Thursday night, fans are speculating whether Cattrall could reprise her role as Samantha Jones, given she’s been referenced several times throughout the season.

But in an interview with Variety, Parker, 56, gave rare comments about their long-running feud, saying she didn’t think she’d be comfortable having a possible reunion with her 65-year-old former co-star.

“I don’t think I would (be OK), because I think there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared,” said Parker, who plays Carrie Bradshaw.

“I haven’t participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let me know,” she said of her former co-star’s stinging public attacks.

“We didn’t go to Kim for this, you know … After we didn’t do the (third) movie and the studio couldn’t meet what she wanted to do, we have to hear her and listen to her and what was important to her.

“It didn’t fit into what was important or needed for us. There’s a very distinct line between Samantha and Kim. Samantha’s not gone. Samantha’s present, and I think was handled with such respect and elegance.

“She wasn’t villainised. She was a human being who had feelings about a relationship, so I think we found a way to address it which was necessary and important for people that loved her.”

After Sex and the City 2 performed well at the box office in 2010, the cast and crew were keen to sign on for a third film. However, reports dogged the production before it came to fruition, with claims Cattrall was refusing to participate over money disputes.

And then, in a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan in 2017, Cattrall claimed she didn’t want to do another movie because she wasn’t friendly with her co-stars Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis - confirming long-running rumours.

“We’ve never been friends,” she said at the time.

“We’ve been colleagues, and in some ways it’s a very healthy place to be, because then you have a clear line between your professional life and relationship and your personal.”

The following year, Cattrall and Parker’s long-brewing feud was laid bare for all to see when Cattrall’s missing brother, Christopher, was found dead in Canada.

The actress took to Instagram to call out Parker, who had brought up the tragedy in a TV interview.

“My Mum asked me today, ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’” Cattrall wrote in the caption. “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already.) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

In the premiere of AJLT, Cattrall’s character was scripted off the show as having moved to London after growing apart from the iconic group of New York women.

Samantha snubbed her friends after being dropped as Carrie’s book publicist, in a turn which ultimately upset fans of the hit series who thought it shared direct parallels with real life, rather than what Samantha would actually do.

However, writers slowly redeemed Samantha across the 10 episodes with multiple touching references.
